Holiday Cheer in the Park Cancelled

Due to the recent passage and pending passage of “progressive” ordinances in the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">township</st1:PlaceType> of <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Sebastopol</st1:PlaceName></st1:place>, Grendel Gravenstein’s school for Witches and Wizards has been forced to cancel our annual "Winter Holiday Leaf Blowing, Smoking, and Whiskey Drinking Contest.

This decades old tradition, held in the <st1:place w:st="on">Sebastopol</st1:place> town square was beloved by many. It is a shame that some folks believe taking away fun and slightly dangerous activities in public spaces is some sort of progress. Gone are the days of smoking, drinking, and general tidying up with a leaf blower in the park.

We will miss the soothing sound of a leaf blower on idle, as we picnic in the park, drinking wine and smoking organic tobacco. We will however, STILL be holding our famous early spring "Chainsaw Turkey Hunts with Jack Daniel’s shooters in the Laguna.

I can only hope that the turkeys are organic, buoyant, and of the age of consent, and that the chainsaws operate on vegetable oil that contains the *good* cholesterol. Call them with singing bowls and sitars, and they'll dance up to you, pre-plucked.

It's just as well that this particular tradition has passed on into oblivion. It was never the same since the day that they removed the train tracks from the center of Sebastopol so we could no longer hold the festival on the tracks.
You'd have to have been there to appreciate the skill required to smoke, drink, and blow leaves, all at the same time, whilst being scooped up by the cow catcher as the train sped through town.
But have no fear dear friend because there still remains the annual p.c. bumper sticker, tie dye, and rasta count which is done while blowing local herb. It's still being held over in the nuclear free... hate free... zone.
