I am curious to know about communities/villages/towns/cities in- or outside the US that seem to have managed to establish a system to radically decrease the use of motorvehicles, eg through laws, public transportation, commuiting etc....anyone knows?

Hmmm, Hi ingo, I can't figure out how to reply to your post privately - but a suggestion is to look at carfree.com - they have a lot of information about carfree cities and how they got that way. There is a list on wikipedia as well with communities and a short description of laws/policies that apply to them - look up "carfree." Good luck!
