Looking for a new older dog or puppy? Rocket Dog may have what you need. The home base is in SF, but there are many dogs & puppies at their local ranch west of Petaluma. We have recently adopted a pup - great organization, caring folks. Cats & rabbits available, too! The fee was reasonable, application required. San Francisco Bay Area Dog Rescue, Adopt a Dog, Foster a Dog: Rocket Dog Rescue (https://www.rocketdogrescue.org) - lots of pictures but not all dogs are posted. An inquiry will get a quick response!

Thanks kateA!! :pant:

I have recently noticed an increase in local animal rescue organizations activities, and want to applaud their efforts, and encourage people to support them however they can. They are a great alternative/addition to the animal shelter services because they:

*provide either sanctary or foster home environments (much better than the kennel & chaos in the shelters), in a lot of cases allowing animals to destress before finding them a new home. This allows potential adopters to get a much better feeling of the animals potential/personality, ie: what they might expect once they take them home.

*can take more time to find a good adoption match.

*usually provide thorough medical exams and care, temperment testing, behavior training, and assessment of level of socialization, way over and above what shelters can do.

*have the freedom to allows dogs to interact in pairs or groups; this helps them to gauge their sociability, and improve socialization where possible before adopting.

*save the lives of at-risk animals in the shelters.

Their fees tend to be a higher than the shleters, but they do so much to champion the rights of animals, and many, many of the people who work for them are tireless volunteers. I will be adopting soon, and am working with a couple of groups to find the right companion. So far I've been very impressed with most of the people I have met working for these organizations. You can find their websites, and browse their adoptable pets through the following website https://www.petfinder.com (type in your zip code and search criteria in the purple box at left).
