(Yes- I know it now has a new name.)
I want to thank Barry for metaphorically and metaphysically dragging me to the Luther Burbank Center on Friday night, not only for the WACCOBB post-Thanksgiving thanksgiving potluck (where I drank just a teensy bit too much of the lovely wine that Barry provided-- thank you) but for getting me to see the Bad Boys of Dance! I would likely never have seen these fantastic folks perform if I hadn't had my nose tugged in that direction. What an extraordinary performance! Talk about an experience of altered reality! It is really uplifting, even for a confirmed curmudgeon such as moi, to experience such incredible energy, skill and artistry. WOW is all I can say. I'll say it again-- WOW! That was great.
And for $20!? Makes me meditate on the weirdness of fame and money in the U.S. at this moment in history. Someone gets up and sings a few dippy songs or, even worse, becomes a Paris Hilton/Tia Tequila type celebrity for no particularly good reason and makes a fortune and these guys and gals obviously spend their whole lives in disciplined practice to shape their bodies and refine their art to a point to be able to do what few humans could do, and do it magnificently beautifully, and at $20 per ticket are obviously not getting rich. Ah well, so it goes-- after all society has also failed to recognize my genius-- no one every said it would be fair.
Thanks again Barry!
Best,
Phil
