OCTOBER 22nd PROTEST AGAINST POLICE ABUSE!
Thursday, 4pm, at the Santa Rosa Police Department (965 Sonoma Ave.)
We need all of your support this year, as hundreds of young people, activists, organizations and concerned community members from Santa Rosa, Napa, Petaluma, San Francisco, the East Bay, and others, converge on the Santa Rosa Police Department to demand an end to all police abuse and brutality.
The young organizers of IMPACT!, O22 and Gathering of the Tribes (Napa) have been hard at work to put together a memorable and inspiring protest this year. We will be hearing speeches from mothers of incarcerated youth, poetry from young immigrants and radical spoken word artists, information about local organizing against police violence, and music from the Hub Bub Club (marching band) and the Jungle Love Orchestra. We will also be delivering a long list of grievances collected from a variety of local organizations such as the Peace and Justice Center, the ACLU, MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan), and the Police Accountability Clinic and Helpline (PACH) to the police department. After our rally at the police department, we will take to the streets for a march through Santa Rosa neighborhoods and into downtown.
HOW YOU CAN HELP!
Although we've handed out close to 5,000 fliers, in addition to the 3,000 that went out in the Peace Press, and talked to hundreds of individuals and organizations, we still need lots of help in making sure our community shows up this Thursday. Here's some things you can do!
1.) Spread the word!- Call, text, email everyone you know. Forward this email. Join our event on Facebook and invite your friends.
2.) If you live in Petaluma, and can drive, we need volunteers to give people rides! We will be meeting at the Phoenix Theater at 3 30 on Thursday. If you don't have a car, and need a ride, please let us know and we will try and provide you with one.
3.) Come to the Sign and Banner making party on Wednesday at 4pm at 1251 Marian Way in Petaluma. Stop by for an hour, or stay all night. Either way, we could use your artistic talent and basically we just want everyone to come hang out and have a good time.
4.) If you play music, bring your instrument to the rally! We want to make as much noise as possible so the SRPD can no longer ignore the cries for justice coming from the people!
5.) Get creative! What can YOU bring to this protest? How can you get the most out of it and participate in a way that you enjoy?
We hope to see you ALL this Thursday at 4pm in front of the Santa Rosa Police Department. Let this be a moment for us to gather strength, to come together and build the base for an energetic and diverse social movement that will put an end to police brutality- whichs robs us of our humanity, which degrades our spirit, which controls us with an electric shock or a club, or the threat being locked in a cage. Together we have the ability to make something new. October 22nd is our time to make our voice heard, to take back our community from violent people, and to build something better.
In Solidarity,
