Dear Friends and Neighbors,

when I was riding my bike in Forestville this late afternoon, I saw a notice posted on one of the boards in town .....

it was written by a man (whom I subsequently called on my cell phone and spoke with) who was in a real crisis. According to his story, he is disabled, and has taken on the task of rescuing and bottle-feeding kittens in need.

He has 12 right now in various stages of readiness for adoption.

Due to a series of hard-luck events, including his land-lady deciding to sell the place where he's been renting ..... and him not yet having found homes for these last 12 kittens .... he is expecting the sharif to board up the place after kicking him out tomorrow night at 6:30pm.

I thought if I put a notice up about his plight and the plight of these kittens, (WACCO, GRATON-NEWS, CraigsList) there would be help for the kittens at least. He lives on a disability pension, so he's got something, but not enough to quickly find a rental.

Actually, I think he's got something lined up for next month, but for the short term, he needs a trailer or shed which can be closed to keep the kittens safe 'til they know where they are. A shelter where he can go, to bring them food and water, on a daily basis. He said he can handle his own needs for the short-term, but needs a safe place for the 12 kittens so that he can care for them continuously until his new place opens up in a few weeks.

He's afraid that the sheriff will board up the kittens (actually, it's not clear WHAT the Sheriff will do tomorrow night. Wonder if the HUMANE SOCIETY should get involved.)

ANYWAY, I'm almost sorry that I called to talk with him (was hoping to hear that it was an old notice and that the crisis has been averted). But, No. He says he's in dire need of getting help with the kittens. He has no computer (and is illiterate with computers). Just got a cell phone recently so he could deal with this issue (being homeless, and no longer having a landline.)

I'm thinking that if SOMEONE could get over there and take some pictures of the kittens while he is still in possession of their home .... it should not be hard to get lots of response to the kittens in need.

ANYWAY .... that's as far as I got. I have his phone number, which I'm putting at the bottom of this message.

There are MANY items popping up in my life right now. About 4 times the usual amount. Just RIGHT now. I just CAN"T take on ONE more project. I really really can't. Last week I could have. Next week I might have. But this week, I simply CAN'T.

I'm hoping (praying!) that someone else will take up the batton on this one ..... and then pass it to the next level of support. Which may well include me .... ANOTHER week!

At least find out what YOU think about this guy. He sounds reasonable on the phone ..... a very good communicator. However, his string of bad luck events is beyond the statistical norm (or at least the norm that I'm used to dealing with and seeing around me). He may be a weirdo. Or, he may be a saint. Life is complex these days.

I just CAN'T take this one one this week. Sorry I got started. But I would never forgive myself if I didn't at least TRY to pass it on to someone else who has a soft spot for baby animals. Especially KITTENS. And bottle-fed, at that. I imagine they are very affectionate. Am thinking of getting one myself ..... when this week of overwhelm is over!

If any of you take the next step, I may be available to do some part of what's needed when the storm has passed.

Much much love,

Lani
