I had vegetarian dim sum at Fresh China in the Coddingtown mall last night -- delicious! They circled the vegetarian items for me on the take-out menu -- not all were obvious otherwise. I ordered three, all terrific, fresh, flavorful.

They serve dim sum all day, from lunchtime to 9 pm. I'll be back for sure.

As a vegetarian, I haven't found dim sum around here, so this is a delight! They have plenty of non-vegetarian items, too, but I didn't pay any attention to those.

Thank you for mentioning "Fresh China." I have going there for years, less so now that my gym is the fine and near-by Coaches Corners.

They not only feature organic produce and chicken at reasonable prices, brown rice is available at no extra charge! Their clientele seems to be mainly the all-you-can-eat crowd that comes for the buffet, but the a la carte selections are more than ample.

Hey, it's 7AM and if they were open, I'd be heading there!

I'm confused, Barn Cat. Fresh China is in Coddingtown. Coaches' Corner (where I teach line dancing) is in Sebastopol. "Near-by"?

I was curious about this, as the name intrigued and the idea of organic produce and brown rice sounded tasty. However, I have a nasty habit of looking up health inspection reports on restaurants.

This one was positively scary:
Food Inspection - Environmental Health Division - DHS - County of Sonoma, California (https://food.sonoma-county.org/FoodInspectionDetails.asp?FoodID=PR0000868)

I am a brave soul with eating at restaurants, and I don't expect restaurants to all have 5-star health inspection reports for years running, but they seem to show a bad pattern of violations. In fact, they seem to have escalated. I refuse to eat at a restaurant that has such disregard for food safety, especially washing hands and food being, as the DHS puts, "safe and unadulterated". They have these two particular violations more than once. Most of the other ones aren't bad, and with the food-turn over they have is really not a problem.

Anyway, I thought it would be nice to let you know the dark side of where you are eating, though I'm sorry if it causes you distress.

I forgot to mention, I generally go to Hang Ah for dim sum. It's not top-quality like some of the places in the city, but it's good comfort food. Best of all, their health inspection report doesn't look too awful. Hang Ah is where the old A&W used to be, on Armory near Steele.

Their report:
Food Inspection - Environmental Health Division - DHS - County of Sonoma, California (https://food.sonoma-county.org/FoodInspectionDetails.asp?FoodID=PR0014447)

Fresh China is a gem of a restaurant. excellent food and service. i've been eating there for years and brought many friends there, all of whom have been impressed. i don't know if there's politics or not with the food inspectors (there was years ago when i worked in a restaurant) but i, nor any friends, have ever had any issues health wise from the food at Fresh China.

cheers~
