I wonder if anyone out there knows what one does when they've observed a threatened species? Should it be reported? Does it get any protection? Who can I talk to about this?

What critter? How is it documented? Give some more info and I'll put it out on my environmental list SonomaWildlife.

CALL the WILDLIFE RESCUE CENTER in Santa Rosa. I did have a brochure for them but can't find it now. You can get it from information or probably find it on a search on internet.

You might also try contacting the Dept. of Fish & Game at 707-944-5500.

What kind of species is it?

You can do an internet search for conservation of that particular species for organizations, info. or advice. I might also be able to recommend a certain organization for that species.

One of the best things you can do is to try to keep all cats & dogs away from the species and its habitat, especially if it's a small animal or bird. Maybe alert neighbors/community to keeping animals indoors/supervised/on leashes. Cats & dogs can do much harm to wildlife.
