From LongRangeWeather (https://www.longrangeweather.com/Weather-Forecasts.htm#):

For the northwest U.S. (including northern California):

"The Fall of 2009 will be turning wetter toward mid-to-late October. A cool and wet fall season is expected overall. The winter of 2009-10 is expected to see much less snowfall, especially when compared to the record amounts seen in 2008-09. Thanks to El Nino, conditions should be milder, drier and windy for the upcoming winter season. However, there will be periods of very cold weather, especially near the "full moon" cycles in December, January and February."

It's not "where" we had it, but "when". My memory is that we had record snowfall in the Sierras in February and March, after most of the winter was dry & mild. Water level in reservoirs had been below normal until the end of February.

I love celebrating weather patterns in song - and I had the good fortune to survive the Valentine's Day Flood of 1986 when the Russian River's crest neared 50 feet. I hope this year's deluge isn't quite as bad as my ditty "predicts"!

EL NINO
by Seahorse D. Gross

The heavens she is open and the rain is falling down
I haven't seen it wet like this since Johnny D. left town
There's herring shoals on Mill Street and there's trawlers everywhere
The sea horses and octopi, I wear them in my hair
El Nino, El Nino
El Nino is wet enough for me

The Russian River's moving east it's six feet deep on Main
The porpoises are dancing and they're laughing once again
the sea lions and steelhead swim among the redwood trunks
and beneath the Guerneville bridge there's no dry land for drunks
El Nino, El Nino
El Nino is damp enough for me

WestAmerica's 'neath the surf, the money's floating 'round
The teachers down at Guerneville school they make a gurgling sound
The vineyards are all flooded - although it looks quite nice
They're tearing up the rootstock and planting long grain rice
El Nino El Nino
El Nino is moist enough for me

The undertow at Guerneville vet knocks Eddie off his feet
With all that abalone he's got enough to eat
He's got his Mustang floating now and has a place to park
But says it's hard to snorkel while neutering a shark
El Nino, El Nino
El Nino is wet enough for me

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence think it's weird
That out of towners stare at nuns with lipstick and a beard
Their Bingo games are legendary - do a lot of good
and no one's had such fun since "B4!" in the Hood
El Nino, El Nino
El Nino is sweat enough for me

I heard Somalian pirate ships have targeted the Pink
They like brisket of Elephant with Merlot which they drink
The women there are beautiful the Pirates need their hugs
but they're afraid to show their face - they've heard about The Thugz
El Nino, El Nino
El Nino is wet enough for me

Down at Armstrong Woods they're Hangin' Ten between the trees
The surfs up and the waves are big as in Hawaii's seas
The barrel waves are epic and the foamies bubble white
They're stringing lights up in the trees
so they can surf at night
El Nino, El Nino
El Nino has saturated me

KGGV's underwater, nowhere to be seen
We moved the studio into a Yellow Submarine
The ventilation's not the best
in fact it's getting rank
And there's sockeye spawning now
inside our septic tank
El Nino, El Nino
El Nino it makes me wanna pee

The waterfalls make Rio Nido look like Bali Ha'i
The humpback whales and giant squid, we've seen them swimming by
The jelly fish and walruses are learning to climb trees
I hope the subaquatic swine don't spread any disease
El Nino El Nino
El Nino, is what I like to see

I won't complain it's been too dry, and I love the rain
The stormy green Pacific wears an endless daisy chain
It doesn't scare we District Fivers, we don't need no pills
Because Efren Carillo. just grew a set of gills
El Nino El Nino
El Nino's about to set us free
