PGE replaced a utility pole on my property about 10 years ago. It still reeks of creosote or whatever chemical it is that the poles are impregnated with. Even tho it is about 20 feet from my kitchen window I can still smell it especially bad on a hot day. I have tried wrapping the pole (as far up as I can get on a ladder) with felt paper and stapling it, but the squirrels and birds peck on it and eventually I have to take it down. Does anyone have any ideas about something I could perhaps spray on it, a poly urathane or something, that would help contain the noxious odor? Thanks.

I would paint it with Marine grade epoxy paint or clear sealer. You can get it from a marine supply store. Not the most eco option. but it will last and seal in the nasty chemicals the posts are treated with.

Yes.
I am going to be doing one of the noxious things soon at a local c.s.a.
I am an artist,I work in cob(Natural building with clay) and ferrro cement.
I intend to make the ugly duckling into a beautiful totem pole
and I will see to it the stench is contained as well.'The exact techniques
for doing this are rather long and tech for this e mail
You could be there when I do it, have me consult in your project
or have someone who does not know what they are doing try it with this seed of ideas.
this is your lucky day, you just realized you have an awesome potential totem pole where you thought you had a nuisance!
Let me know what you think!
