We use kerosene in our Aladdin lamps and we used to purchase it from Remember Yesterday but they are out of business now.

I am looking for high quality kerosene. Does anyone have a source?:tinker:

I don't use them anymore (solar power!) but please be aware that the mantles in the Aladdin lamps are radioactive! This is also true of the Coleman mantles. Unless there has been a change in the composition of the mantles, they are made of thorium. According to one article I have, they were made of beryllium until the late 1960s.

Here are the sources:

Mother Earth News, Nov/Dec 1982
This is a long, comprehensive article.

Science Magazine, vol 181, 31 August 1973

Encyclopedia Americana, vol 26, 1977 (Thorium)

And another, by Bernard Kamoroff, which was the first time I saw anything about it, and I didn't note the source, but I can send you a copy of the article if you like. I think that it was in a small local paper I saw in Garberville.

The kerosene sold by Rotten Robbie in Forestville - is that "high quality"? Seems top work fine in my kerosene heaters...
