Right near the Charter school in Forestville on River Rd. CHP hiding-no car visible, he jumped (!) in front of my vehicle holding a radar gun. I was the first car in a line of sitting ducks. My first speeding ticket in 12 years. Yes I know it's not a good idea to speed, but classes are still out and there were no pedestrians whatsoever.
I think the CHP is racheting up revenues and they have staked out the easy pickin's this weekend before school starts. Lots of vacationers on the road..so word up-they're out to nail you this weekend.

What's so hard about driving the posted speed limit? You never have to worry about speed traps, tickets, court or warning others of police presence if you just drive the speed limit all the time, not just when you think cops are around.

I said it was the 1st speeding ticket I hd gotten in 12 years. That isn't because I just slow down when I think cops are around. Its because I drive the freaking speed limit! Everyone makes mistakes. I made one in an area where cops KNOW people blow it and wait for that to happen-its called in the vernacular a speed trap.

I was also driving an australian friend to the airport and was afraid he'd be late for his connection-no excuse for speeding but if we're honest, we've all been there.

Can citizens give cops speeding tickets? I got stopped at 2pm last year, the only person on the long straight section of River Road in clear broad daylight and the first thing I said was...."I find myself frequently in traffic flow exceeding 55 on this section of River Road... including cops." I got a ticket.
Two weeks later I'm SO SORRY I didn't have a way to tape it - I was last in line of 5 cars, right behind THAT cop... and all of us going 65. The cop was both breaking the law and ignoring enforcing what he nailed me for.
It's this duplicity and unfairness I resent and has caused me to lose respect - I see them exceeding the speed limit for no good reason all the time, they ignore or enforce at will and have let go many for the same thing they gave others tickets for.

Just before school gets back in is just the time to be visible out there slowing people down. Sorry to hear you were cited, however.

Too many drivers have no idea what the speed limit is on any given stretch of road they are driving. They simply drive as fast as they feel comfortable until they come up behind a car going slower. Then they ride the bumper of the car ahead even though it may be going the posted speed limit. "Flow of traffic" may have nothing to do with the speed limit, nor does whether there is other traffic on the road or not. It is the responsibility of each driver to know the posted speed limit and observe that limit. Failure to do so may result in a citation that is the fault of the driver, not the issuing officer.
Enforcement of traffic laws is something each officer prioritizes among the other duties of each shift. If an officer is responding to a non-emergency call, he/she may not take the time to enforce a speeding law while enroute to another task. It certainly does give tacit approval to those who were speeding and did not get a ticket.
Know the speed limit and observe it at all times and you will have no problem (other than having speeders tailgate you).
