View Full Version : BIG Complaint about Woolsey here...

Called her office and she is not planning any town hall meeting on this most important subject of health care reform…And the office person had nothing to ‘offer’ me on this issue…other than looking at her website…
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I think that's pretty lame...It's important to meet with your constituents when it comes to something so important like this community issue…

Very mad about this right now…A Rep. not offering anything in the community on this most important matter?…

So, out of frustration I called another Reps. office (out of my district)…they had already had their meeting, but offered to e-mail me the ‘most frequently asked questions’…

At least they were friendlier and offered me something...I don’t even want to vote for Woolsey ever again now…

I typed my zip on one website and there is nothing in this area coming up…WHAT A VOID…I’d like to hear what other’s questions, and concerns are in this area on this subject…

If anyone knows of any meetings on this issue…Let me know…

I urge you not to take this personally....Woolsey is amongst the most progressive people in Congress (and, of course, chairs the Congressional Caucus)...you know where she will stand on this issue...and, you know where she stands on most issues.....go to move on meetings, etc....I don't think, it this overwhelmingly liberal district, that she needs to take time to present on this issue, she'll vote in the proper way....she has plenty to attend to.....
and, who would you vote for? the corporate leaning Joe Nation wanted and maybe still wants her seat...someone like this would not serve us with a tenth the vigor that Woolsey brings....
see the bigger picture here...

Well, hey we do have an interactive form of government and our REPs are supposed to represent their constituency so that means if we don't feel represented and we have a need/want, we need to speak up and MAKE A REQUEST. Maybe there are others who are also requesting a meeting on this topic and one will soon be scheduled.
I think it's important to let our reps know what we want as specifically as possible.

I sure agree with one of the people urging you to think about the big picture on Woolsey. She is one of the best and just don't get so impatient with her. She is one of the very few progressive representatives in the House and she has served us well and will continue in that direction.

Dancing....and others...

Of course I requested she have a meeting...Three times already...

Her office offered me NOTHING!!...(And based on the tone and content of what was said to me, will NOT have a meeting on the subject)...

They told me nothing about any meeting, or rally or anything...nothing!

You may think she's a good Rep....but on this issue she is being an extremely poor one!...And it's such a darn important community - federal issue!

And her office needs some better people in it....

I am taking it personally in the sense that it obviously incenses me!...It's a community issue...and a very personal one also for everybody!...For me to have NOTHING offered from a Reps. office on this most important subject...Is incredibly irresponsible and lame...

I really want to hear people's dialogue, debate, and questions, and answers on this subject...I don't want to just go to a rally...Couldn't make it anyway....

Again....This is a very important issue for everyone...And for a Rep. to not have ONE single meeting for dialogue in a community setting is reprehensible to me...

Since I want to go to one...I'll have to go to another Rep's district...to the East, or South Bay...That's pretty bad...

Thanks for responding with SOMETHING...

So, yeah, maybe I'll do a write in on the next ticket...I don't think I can go with her, after this...

If 'Lynn' had gone to Woolsey's website, as was suggested by Woolsey's office, he would have see that Woolsey IS addressing this issue, including a recording of Woolsey's Townhall meeting on the subject, which would have given Lynn exactly what lynn is whining that they wouldn't give him.

This devious, lame RW tactic is being played out all over the country, as prescribed by Rush Limbaugh et al.

Clancy...

Well, apparently you read my posts...But did not understand them...

I will post and highlight what I stated above...(with a little re-wording)...

...It's important to meet with your constituents (esp. when it comes to something as important as a this most personal/community issue…

If other people don't care about a meeting...Then that's your business...

I do...

If 'Lynn' had gone to Woolsey's website, he/she would see that Woolsey IS addressing this issue, in a big way.

She gave a townhall meeting on the subject. Why are you LYING? I suppose now you're going to weasel out and say your complaint is that you couldn't personally go and disrupt her meeting, well, too fucking bad. She held a townhall meeting in a safe, secure way that her constituents could get their questions answered, and RW instigators couldn't disrupt.

So, if you really want to hear her responses to the community's concerns about healthcare, listen to her Townhall meeting;

Okay Clancy....Now you are being a very BIG jerk!....

If you had wiretaps on my phone...You would KNOW I am NOT lying!...

Don't you dare state I am lying when I am NOT lying...Don't you even go there....

And don't you accuse me of wanting to disrupt a meeting either....You are making a very BIG false ASSUMPTION there...(And I was suspecting someone on here might accuse me of that)...

I am stating what was told to me by Woolsey's office...

I suggest to you, in a BIG way...That you do not continue to assume very wrong things about people you know nothing about!!...

-----------

So, it seems she DID have one by telephone...And her office specifically stated to me she was NOT planning on having a town hall meeting...So, she needs to get much better office staff then!!...

Yes, I believe it was last Monday, or Tuesday when I called for the second time about a Town Hall (the first call was about a week before)...And absolutely NOTHING was stated to me that she was planning a Town Hall by phone, or anything...or had had one...

I deserve an apology from both Clancy and Woolseys' office...But I can't expect one of course...
----------

A telephone 'meeting' is better than nothing...But, I wonder how pat or not the questions were...I'll find out...

I appreciated the spirit of one Rep. in New York...He held his 'town hall' meeting with a card table in a Safeway parking lot...And when asked if he was worried about people disrupting it...He brushed it off, and stated it's very important to meet with the people...(there were a few roudy types so the store just called the cops, and things went fine)...

That's the spirit!!...

I find this sleazy lack of intellectual integrity to be deeply disturbing. What has happened to conservatism in this country? Why can't you debate her positions instead of lying and saying she hasn't presented any? Your childish tactic is being played out in every venue and medium across the land. I frankly fear for our future, as American politesse is all but dead.

Clancy....

Oh, Stop It....Quit projecting....

The only one being 'sleazy' here, and having a lack of 'intellectual integrity'
here is you...If you can comprehend without projecting your own delusions onto me - you will see my post here had nothing to do with wanting to debate 'her positions'....And I NEVER stated she didn't have any??...

What on god's earth are you on???

ONCE AGAIN -- I simply put up a post about being VERY frustrated that there was not going to be any town-hall meeting...

Do you have a problem comprehending that if someone gets very frustrated about that...It DOES NOT automatically mean they are wanting to go there to shout, or be mean and nasty?...

Apparently, you do...

And cotatikid....It's your perogative of course to give a 'gratitude'...But you are giving a gratitude to someone who is being quite wrong about me here...

I'm sorry you can't see that either...
-----

Here Clancy, you are assuming I'm some kind of 'conservative', and on another board...I'm assumed to be a 'left-wing-control-freak'...

I'm sick of people projecting their own BS onto others...And right now you are doing it!!...

So, just STOP it!!...PLEASE!!!
-----------

If you want to know why 'conservatives' are acting the way they are now...There's always the other boards out there to find out...
-----------

And just so you know...My older friend - reminds me that all this is nothing new...FDR, and JFK were called socialists, marxists, and Tyrants...People were out on the streets everywhere protesting...Totally freaked out about socialist medi-care, and social security...

It's nothin' new...

Your first post;

"Called her office and she is not planning any town hall meeting on this most important subject of health care reform…And the office person had nothing to ‘offer’ me on this issue…other than looking at her website…Very mad about this right now…A Rep. not offering anything in the community on this most important matter?"

The first response, from Zeno;

"Rally with Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey.

Join with the West County Health Centers in calling for health care reform and celebrate Lynn Woolsey as a champion of a robust public insurance option."

And you admit that Woolsey's office directed you to her website, where you could have listened to her Town Hall meeting on healthcare reform that was held six days ago on Aug 11 and read other news articles explaining Woolsey's position on the issue, which is what you claim you were looking for.

Clancy...

The bottom line is...The last time I called, they mentioned her website near the end of the call...But again, said nothing about any telephone townhall, rally, or anything.

I made it very clear to them I wanted a community meeting...I wanted to hear other people's questions, and concerns...

I knew nothing about any telephone townhall 'till you mentioned it here...

And I still think it's very important to have a meeting with constituents - not just a rally...Esp. on a most important issue that's been confusing and complicated for many people...

I heard of one meeting where the UU church brought in people from the medical field, and with the Rep. had a pretty good meeting...That's what I think would be good to have here...

It was creepy for me...You called me a liar when I was not lying...And was not being 'sleezy' either...

1,200 fill 'raucous' health care forum in Petaluma

MARK ARONOFF / The Press Democrat
Sher Sheldon, 57, of Novato told the Petaluma
crowd Monday that she supports a health overhaul
as she can't get insurance because she has multiple
sclerosis.

An overflow crowd of about 1,200 people attended a boisterous town hall meeting Monday night in Petaluma on the national health overhaul, many expressing support for a proposed government-run program and others shouting it down.

The two-hour meeting, run by Democratic Rep. Lynn Woolsey, was the first and only chance for many Sonoma and Marin County residents to ask questions and air comments before Congress reconvenes after Labor Day to consider the pending legislation.

Dozens spoke on both sides of the debate amid constant jeers and chants from an audience that filled every seat in the hall and spilled out into a second room and the front lobby.

Exasperated by catcalls, Jason Davies of Petaluma, who supports a public option plan, told health care overhaul opponents they missed their chance to control the discussion under the Bush administration.
“You guys had your way!” the software executive yelled into the microphone, drawing waves of cheers and boos. “This is our time to take our country back. We won!”

Opponents such as retired Novato veteran David Nusser countered that most people are satisfied with their current health insurance. Liberals are trying to force a socialist system that would create more taxes, he said.

“Mrs. Woolsey,” said Nusser, “you and your group of thieves should go back to the drawing board.”

People began arriving at the Petaluma Veterans Memorial Hall about an hour before the meeting. A line snaked out the front door and around the building into a back parking lot.

Many carried signs or argued their positions with others in line. Some filmed the scene with video cameras.

About a half-dozen Petaluma police officers, some in plain clothes, looked on.

There were no arrests, Lt. Mike Cook said.

Woolsey took the stage to polite clapping and some heckling. She fended off vocal opponents as she made arguments for changes she said would improve the efficiency of the medical system while controlling costs.

An opponent in the back blurted out, “That's crap!” and supporters chanted, “Let her speak!”

After getting booed when she asked people to lower their signs, Woolsey lightened the mood by citing Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass, who said in his own town hall meeting that talking to opponents was like arguing with a dining room table.

“I promise not to label anyone as dumb as a dining room table, and I have confidence you will do the same,” she said.

Despite the circus atmosphere, many people had serious concerns and questions.

Some wanted to know if they would be covered under the proposals if they lost their jobs and medical benefits. Others wanted to know if they could get medical insurance with a pre-existing health condition.
Others asked who would pay for it. Woolsey said the most wealthy Americans who earn more than $250,000 a year would pay a surcharge.

Sher Sheldon, 57 of Novato rolled up to the microphone in a wheelchair. Multiple sclerosis has prevented her from getting coverage, and she has a prescription drug bill of $1,000 a month, she said.

Woolsey said her problems would be solved under the plan.

“Isn't medical coverage for all a moral issue?” Sheldon asked to applause.

Lela Landman, 63, of San Anselmo said health care should be treated like any other government service that is funded by tax dollars. The current system is arranged to benefit private companies, she said.
“We pay for public safety. We pay for fire,” she said. “Health care should not be for profit.”

But opponents were out in force.

Robert Klag, a Mill Valley accountant, worried an overhaul would make him change a doctor he has had for 32 years.

“My health care coverage is something I understand and know how it works,” Klag said.

Rod Hug, a retired enginer from Santa Rosa, said three-fourths of American don't want “Obama-care.”
And Catherine Bragg, 50, a Novato business owner, revved up the crowd by accusing Woolsey of elitism.
“Reform is being rammed down our throats,” she said, throwing her arms in the air. “If you let the free-market system work everyone could have insurance.”

Woolsey hadn't planned on hosting a town hall meeting.

The former Petaluma city councilwoman presided over a telephone conference and attended smaller forums scattered across her 6th District, which encompasses all of Marin County and most of Sonoma County.

But last week, amid criticism she was denying the public a chance to speak, she announced the Petaluma meeting.

In a brief interview afterward, she called the meeting productive. She said she would consider the remarks before returning to Washington.

“That was a raucous meeting, she said.

Barry...(and others)...

Thanks for posting about the meeting!...I do appreciate it!...

As fate would have it...I was away on a job for several days without car or computer, (away from 'mainstream life') and did not know about the townhall 'till the next day when listening to the radio...

Needless to say, I was pretty bummed I had missed it...

And I would like to remind some people...Not everybody has access to computers much of the time...And maybe it had been announced in some papers and, on the radio...But, I missed those too eventhough I listen to the radio quite a lot usually...

I really would have made the effort to go if I had known about it...

So, thanks for trying to let me know in time!...I really do appreciate it!...

And here's to having good, affordable health care for everyone who needs it!...

So, now I want THAT!...:)

I caught some of the healthcare meeting in Sebastopol's square Wednesday evening and heard people organizing input to Congress and White House throughout September - when decisions will be made.
The discussion has been framed by big money interests, which control media, government and everything else, may be a lost cause, like the rest of 'our' country. The economic collapse is gutting all human servicers and infrstructure while continuing to make war and transfer wealth upwards.
By all means, do call, write or fax senators and reps and encourage others in all parts to do the same. Those who are in fear of 'socialism' (ha) and losing something certainly are vocal. The low consciousness (even in Petaluma!) is depressing.
May the greater good prevail! Blessings, Judith
