Govindas was sold to new owners, a couple who seem very nice. They have kept the menu, prices, and most of the decor. The previous owner has retired to follow spiritual pursuits.

Because school is out for the summer at SRJC the number of people eating at Govindas is down, please help Govindas stay in business by patronizing them. I would hate to loose this restaurant. Where else can you get a whole, fresh, vegetarian meal for about the cost of a burrito?

Govindas is located in the same building as Community Market and The Last Record Store on Mendocino Avenue just north of Santa Rosa Junior College.

Yes! These are wonderful people and friends to the community who own the restaurant! The new owners, Susan Church and Ari Camarota were VERY kind to donate lunch or dinner for 4 to the auction at the Free Okili Event as well (and good friends of mine and Okili's I might mention). And for those in the music community, many of you may know of the locally famous Max the Sax AKA Ari Camarota, the AWESOME saxophone Player who's jammed with many well known musicians, and who teaches at Stanroys; and I know he plans to get a few live gigs in there as well, if he hasn't already. Please do support them! They are Great cooks too! And vegetarian / organic to boot (not many of those in Santa Rosa)!

I'd like to ad that I just went in there for lunch and I especially loved the all you can eat salad and soup bar. There were two really yummy soups: a Creamy carrot (which I think was creamy from coconut milk) and a really wonderful Dahl that had delicious bits of fennel and corriander seed in it! For all those looking for Vegan, they've got that too, in addition to being vegetarian. Ari says he's trying to get music in there several nights of the week, including having the place open serving food past 10PM on the weekends (w/ the live music). Sounds like a new party spot to me.

The dahl soup is a pea soup and it is VERY addictive. Really its worth going just to try that soup.

Hey, Barrie, I wanted to let you know that I went in, with my son, as a result of your encouragement, to support the new Govinda's..
My son is a vegetarian and he LOVEs Govindas.. it makes him feel high, he says. I enjoyed it too. To me the food seemed pretty much the same, if not slightly fresher and cleaner feeling. Maybe we got there just as they were opening their buffet table. ; )
It's a very good, healthy, dining experience for a very reasonable price.

(I like to support the "Last Record Store", next door, too. I got 3 used CDs for $10, I think.. )

Scott.

And, of course, don't forget the wonderful and affordable Community Market, the third part to the Trio in that Building (Govinda's, The Last Record Store, and Community Market). Community Market is strictly vegetarian (accept some of the pet food), but it's got some of the nicest most local organic, and AFFORDABLE produce (compared w/ the other local choices for Organic (Whole Foods, Olivers, Pacific Market). I am always happy with the produce - and bulk section$, as well. Go shopping at Commmunity Market, stop for lunch at Govindas, then treat your self to a new CD at The Last Record Store for dessert.
