View Full Version : The Ignore Option, Can It Be Public?
"Mad" Miles

Yo Barry, Candace and other Moderators,
I was thinking about my recent exchanges here, and the whole debate/discussion about anonymous vs. public identity when posting, and I realized that not only wouldn't I mind letting those who I have on my "Ignore" list know that they're on it, but I'd like to know who's ignoring me. Could that be made so?
To be fully candid, I kinda WANT those who I'm ignoring (most of the time) to know that I'm doing so.
I usually decide to ignore someone when they've demonstrated a consistent pattern of trolling, or other behavior that I find so irritating that I want to avoid the stress of, and wasted time, reading their posts. Not that I don't check some of their stuff out by once in a while opening their posts. Especially if they're engaged with some of the things I'm spouting. Or when they're zapping people who I like and respect.
So, if the goal here is open and honest communication. Why shouldn't someone know when someone else is shunning them?
What'cha think?

:burngrnbounce:
(Really folks, I only adopted my "nom de keyboard" after I'd regularly referred to myself as a "mad forwarder of political emails" [still true but not quite as much as a few years ago] and someone replied to me and called me Mad Miles.
I thought, yeah, that works, why not, I'm "MAD" MILES!!!??? The rest is history, of a kind, not too significant, but we all get our jollies where we can....)

Thanks for the suggestion, MM, but I'm going to pass for now. Besides the work involved, it would be another way of feeding the trolls. And closer moderation is coming...

Barry, isnt this whole issue really easy to deal with. you write what you want to write. you ignore who you want to ignore. and you take responsibility for your own actions. why do grown ups need a babysitter to monitor behavior here?

Mad Miles, what a great idea!
I'd like to add even more buttons to push, while we're at it.
The ignorant list = this is for people who don't read the post of certain people, just because they don't like something that was said somewhere else, and they were told not to respond in order to stay ignorant .
The hypocrite list = this is for those who loudly and repeatedly advertise that they are ignoring someone, but are in fact following every thing that person writes
The contortionist list = this is for those who say they are ignoring someone but are talking about this person, they are ignoring, in their own post in an obsessed fashion in order to persuade other to ignore that poster as well.
The myopic list = this is for those who can only see their own point of view, and keep on repeating it, ad nauseum.
The ostrich list = this is for those who point fingers at others in order to show that they aren't like that.
The Jesus List = this is for those who present themselves to be above it all, and want others to know that they are.
The All Saints list = this is for those who read what they like and respond accordingly.
What do you think Miles, any other suggestions?

I see you left out the description of me Ms. Terry.
Fup Duck: as in all fup duck.
Baba going 'wack wack wack'..(as in wacco ?).
Since I can sometimes be so off base it's a crying shame.
I think maybe a little icon of an umpire would be appropriate
To indicate I've been caught off base again ?
I'd rather that than to be shunned, or tossed out of the game.
After all community does indicate we all interact (despite our
myriad shortcomings). A gentle reminder works better than
a bullet to the head doesn't it.

NO BaBa, you are my sanctuary of sanity.

Actually they should bleep the offending parts, and show that as a reminder.
But you, you are too gentle a soul to join this fup Duck who seems to like to swim in hot water.
A gentle reminder works better than a bullet to the head doesn't it.
bullets have a tendency to multiply.
Let me know if you see one with my name on it.
I want it back!

I think that both Ms Terry & Dynamique are on to something. I've said it before but it bears repeating: Too many people who read the WaccoBB Daily Digest , 1) are browsing for ANYthing posted that they can disagree with (in public) AND sound as if they're on the path of the good & generous: 2) have been indoctrinated with what is expected of them to believe or say they believe due to the enormous peer pressure in this region to be "more progressive than thou", usually in a smug way; and, 3) WAY too many people spend WAY too much time beating a posting to death (ex: STILL posting about the person(s) who can or can't add/do math related to the content of a posted topic, which wasn't actually about Math, per se), twisting a posting's topic such that they can start a debate over something that wasn't even there to begin with, and/or being prepared to disagree with someone whose posts they've disagreed with in the past, thereby convicting that person (whether they're a "Troll" or not) to being ignored unless they want to "stir the pot" over the "Troll's" latest posting. I'm sorry to see supposed adults behaving this way, sort of like Lord of the Flies, in a way. Your own "society"---well that's fine, unless you misuse the power, lose sight of the purpose, and end up tying certain people to the whipping post.
Think of yourselves as well-meaning human beings as you type, maybe even put a smile on your face (it's hard to be mean/angry when you're smiling) before you start mutilating someone's reputation, or even simply saying something unkind. I've learned quite a lot about posting from the last three years, and I'm grateful to WaccoBB for being the conduit to the newer, kinder poster I've evolved into! :fairy:Oops, there's my fairy/angel, telling me it's time to get some sleep. I sleep very well when I'm not responsible for running the entire world---try it sometime!
Smiles,

And "Mad" you did a fabulous job of confirming why you're on my ignore list. Previously you were not on my radar at all. Congratulations on your upgrade.

Aformer neighbor of mine wrote a great little book: FUP (the story of a duck), Simon and Schuster, 1983, ISBN 0-671-50910-1. It is filled with interesting references to life in the west county.

Author is Jim Dodge...story about a Cazadero guy who hunts a pig that's ruining his property, but can only hunt the pig on his days off....which works out real well for the pig.
A duck shows up, and doesn't leave..it eats everything in sight, and acts outrageous.
Story has a less than perfect ending, but all in all was a great read.
My duck, which showed up some 10 years ago seemed to fit the description completely. He tried to mate with a turkey vulture in our care....sexually assaulted the chicken every time that dumb cluck got close....which seemed a nonstop pattern of forgetfulness on the chicken's part.
Last year marauding raccoons put sent fup back to where ever fup ducks come from.
Thanks for reminding me to give credit where credit is due.
