take black pepper and garlic crushed and sprinkle it around the perimeter.
works to keep cats off your convertible top also.

I saw a black cat in the Safeway parking lot in Guerneville last night. I think it may have had a little white on its paw also, but I didn't get a very close look.
I wish I had read the post earlier...!

A lot of cats love garlic, so I wouldn't try that, but I read recently that cayenne pepper will keep raccoons away, so I'd think about that for cats too since they like to sniff before the dig.

Me thinks you need some wire to put over so they cannot get in.

They make this very interesting strip of mesh that gives a static shock when an animal steps on it. I have seen it used to keep animals off furnature as well as deterring dogs from jumping fences... I would imagine it would do wonders for a curious cat.
