URGENT HELP NEEDED ~ PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
For those who don’t know: Okili Nguebari, beloved friend of many communities for the past 27 ½ years, beloved husband of an American wife for 21 ½ years, father of two American children ages 21 and 17, business owner, non profit founder of The United Africa Club, home owner, and tax payer, was picked up by the Dept. of Homeland Security, ICE unit on Monday April 20, 2009 in front of his home by six ICE officers traveling from SF in 3 unmarked cars (talk about waist of tax dollars). He was picked up for a 23 year old outstanding order of deportation from an over stay of Visa.
For the past 21 years his American wife and he have been trying to make him legal, including an Amnesty Applicatioin period that was denied after pending for 15 years w/ temp. legal status. 3 weeks prior to his being picked up they had just met with an Immigration attorney and were set to start new appeals on his case, now that Obama is in office. They were saving money and waiting till June when they expected a family financial gift. That night of April 20, after being picked up, he was whisked away straight to the Eloy, AZ Detention Facility (south east of Tucson in the mid of hot dessert) where he is currently being held with a final order of Deportation. It is imperative to “stay” this order, for if he is deported he will be barred from the country for 10 years before a waiver application can even be considered.
To fight the case we will initially need about $5000 which will increase easily to $10,000 - $20, 000 + - so we are going VERY Public.<o:p></o:p>

From Sabrina, his Wife: (this is lengthy, but necessary to fill you in)<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Hello my friends,<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Sorry it is so late at night. I know a few of you were waiting for this, and I keep doing last minute things for tomorrow, answering this and that. And now this is taking longer because it is time I start writing more concisely about this. First off, I should really start by saying thank you, thank you for all of the outpouring of support and love I am receiving. Several people have come forward to offer the financial support I so urgently need right here in the beginning, including some already fundraising in their homes or dance classes (i.e. Michele Jensen, Victoria Strowbridge), and coming straight to my home to give me a check (too many to list). Other good friends and family in other communities too, have financial support they are about to send me that they’ve raised. Everyone is so appreciated. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
UPDATES<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
I wanted to update everyone how things are with what’s happening with Okili’s fight right now. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
TODAY – April 29, 2009 <o:p></o:p>
Today at 11:00 AM I go to the Atty. we decided on to write a check for the retainer of $2500 and sign documents so she can just get started. I know the money is coming but so far, as of today I’ve received just $1600. I just hope that the check I write does not bounce because I don't think it'll look good right in the beginning to ask her to wait to cash on Monday. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
If anyone has said they were going to give us some money but has not yet had a chance, I hate to rush you, but please try to do something during your lunch break tomorrow as I will be so much more relieved when I know it’s all covered. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
STILL URGENT<o:p></o:p>
We need to stop deportation so that he is not banned from this country. When the first papers are filed by the lawyer, once she is retained, that stops the immediate removal, and we can more easily fight from there.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
MONEY<o:p></o:p>
You can deposit into almost any Credit Union with a <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Service</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Center</st1:placetype></st1:place> (i.e. bank w/ tellers, etc), does not matter which Company. Here is a link that you can see exactly where a Credit Union is in your neighborhood or town (Does not matter the Company). When you get to the main page just enter city state or Zip code on the left hand side, and directly below that select CU Service Centers Only. Here's the web: <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
https://www.cuswirl.com/locations/index.htm (https://www.cuswirl.com/locations/index.htm). <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Make any check Payable to either Sabrina Krauss or Henri Nguebari (Okili's official name)<o:p></o:p>
Deposit to Account # #448076<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Please DO NOT make check out to "Okili Legal Fund". I thought I could set this up but it required a fictitious business name filing, etc. I got a couple of these and they are kind of hard to cash. I end up having to write his name in and crossing off legal fund and initialing for you (not really kosher).<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
If someone prefers to actually send a check via snail mail, I decided not to put my home address out here because I don’t want it to get way out on the web. We do expect to go as public as possible with this. So please mail it with a note listing Account # 448076 and one of our names above to:<o:p></o:p>

Tell her Henri Roger Nguebari arrived here in the <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">USA</st1:place></st1:country-region> 27 ½ years ago on an F1 Student Visa (Dec. 15, 1981). Today he has not left the country accept for once when his mother died and he was paroled to leave legally under the pending Amnesty Application. Tell her it is wrong that Henri Roger Nguebari is being separated from his American Wife of 22 years, and two American born children ages 17 and 21. The family built a life here; he was the protector and provider, they owned a home together, he founded an African cultural non profit Org. here (The United Africa Club), he started a business here with his wife, and filed his income taxes for every year of his 27 ½ years residing here and making a living. Tell her he is being held in Eloy <st1:state w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Arizona</st1:place></st1:state> detention facility, A# 26370867, and is being unfairly set for deportation after being stone walled to become legal for 21 years, including the 15 year pending Amnesty application. We want a humanitarian bill to unify this family legally, as it is wrong to punish this whole family for his denial of amnesty or for his overstay of a student F1 Visa over 25 years ago. A Note about Amnesty:<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
-I just found out that the Amnesty Program Okili filed for back in 1986 in which he was denied and then he appealed and then was denied again in the year 2000 with no option to reopen; NOW has a way to reopen it. The Northwest Immigration Rights Project, et al Vs. <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">United States</st1:place></st1:country-region> Citizenship and Immigration Amnesty Class Action Settlement of 2008 pertains to Okili’s Amnesty case. They had this settlement in Sept. 2008 that says that Feb 1 2009 – Jan. 31, 2010 people who were denied that Amnesty may actually have the chance to reopen it again. I will let you know after I speak with the lawyer tomorrow what she says. You can Google the Settlement and find a lot out about it if you’d like.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
FUNDRAISERS<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
There are several people I starting to organize about fundraising. Please let me know if you have a special skill for organizing events, or have special connections, have a donation for a raffle, are an entertainer, etc. We are trying to get donations for event locations, and many things could transpire. No Possibilities or ideas turned away. Looks like some folks may organize various things in their communities.
<o:p></o:p>
<st1:placename w:st="on">Sebastopol</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Community Center</st1:placetype>, <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sonoma</st1:place></st1:city> county<o:p></o:p>
Currently people have reserved the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Sebastopol</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Community Center</st1:placetype></st1:place> on Sat. May 16. They have not been able to offer the center for free, but are able to give a reduced rate of $500. They also need a $500 deposit that will be returned. If anyone has a better connection with the Community Center for less money or if you can front the money please step forward. It is hard to get people to come up with this money up front, when we are so desperately trying to raise the legal funds that will continue to climb, we know.
<o:p></o:p>
BEER REQUEST<o:p></o:p>
As many of you may know, Okili was an often frequenter of many pubs, probably a top customer for some. He regularly frequented places like The Russian River Brewing Company, The Sweet Spot, and The Toad in The Hole in <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Santa Rosa</st1:place></st1:city>; also he was quite well known at The Ace in the Hole in Graton but this was a longer drive from home. I was thinking we should ask one of these pubs, maybe especially RRV Brewing Co since they make Beer, to donate a Keg or so of Beer to the Community Center Event. Any ideas?
<o:p></o:p>
DELEGATING RESPONSIBILITY<o:p></o:p>
As many people know, I’ve had a lot of experience with events, but this time I must definitely relinquish responsibility. Though I will probably have my fingers in a lot, I know I really can’t handle it all by myself. Please step forward with any coordinating skills you may have, as there are a lot of people ready to help and need to be put together.
This is a community effort, I can’t do it alone.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Andrea Karolle, is trying to coordinate the current loosely knit group of people who’ve expressed an interest to volunteer with coordination of fundraising events / or the event.
Her email is: [email protected] ([email protected]). We also need someone to coordinate musicians/ entertainers.
<o:p></o:p>
As of yet, there is no certain person in control of anything, just lots of people wanting to work together. I’m visualizing people delegating into their natural rolls in this play of justice through collective communications and reception of one another’s various gifts of love and expertise they bring ~ to help manifest Okili’s Freedom. There are so many amazing people who all want to help; and, Okili, me, and the kids (Abanya and Olembe) welcome and appreciate them all. We just need help getting organized!
<o:p></o:p>
READY TO GO PUBLIC WITH THIS<o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>
Yes, we are ready to go public. Tell Waccobb (have not been able to yet – maybe I’ll post this) tell the news, Press Democrat (need to contact Dan Taylor, he and Okili would enjoy a beer together from time to time, 7 on your side, Bohemian, KPFA, KBBF, anything else? I need help with this too. Thanks!

OKILI AND FAMILY<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Okili’s Condition and Sprits<o:p></o:p>
The good news is that Okili is getting a bit of a health work out over there. In the past he’s had a bit of high blood pressure, and now he’s exercising regularly, (A LOT more than here home), gets no beer, and now his blood pressure has actually gone down! The only thing he says is the food situation sucks. Breakfast is at 5:00AM, which he misses because he says it’s total junk. He eats lunch at Noon, and dinner at 4:00Pm . By 8:00 Pm he’s quite hungry and they go to bed at 10:15 Pm. Most people are eating things they purchase in some Canteen place at about 8:00, but Okili needs money on the books for that. He’s been borrowing from people their food they’ve purchased, and he’s feeling a little ashamed not to have his own money on the books. This money on the books also helps him make needed collect phone calls (ridiculous charges: $3.50 for 1st minute, .45 each additional, and only 15 min allowed per call). If you’d like to put money on his books go to (this can be found on line and paid through credit card):

Okili’s wife and childrens’ Condition and Spirits<o:p></o:p>
When Okili was first picked up by the ICE last Monday, we spent pretty much a full week morning and night on the phone, on the computer quite stressed, crying and trying to stay strong and grounded. I, Sabrina was pretty much not able to focus on my wine sales job. It was too hard to focus on selling wine with a smile on my face while there is so much at hand to urgently take care of. I’ve been and still am exhausted; and just now, that we have a plan to hopefully stop the deportation in time, I feel slight relief, but not till it’s done. Today for the first time since Monday April 20, ’09 I sat down for two hours to try to work In the wine job (not easy, but a MUST).
<o:p></o:p>
The kids too have been upset, but strong. Abanya’s also got a lot going on in her life with trying to move out of a house, and maybe here home for a while as she’s transitioning. Olembe has been quite strong, but has also been effected when all these people ask him so many questions about his Dad “ why was he illegal, why was your Dad picked up”, etc. I told him to just tell people to ask me. All he needs is love and support. It’s quite disturbing, as a kid, to think your Dad may never come back here again, even if you can go there (it’s far away, another culture and language).
<o:p></o:p>
WE want to go to <st1:country-region w:st="on">France</st1:country-region> or <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Congo</st1:country-region></st1:place>, but not under these conditions of forced family separation.
<o:p></o:p>
Love,
<o:p></o:p>
Sabrina

He regularly frequented places like The Russian River Brewing Company, The Sweet Spot, and The Toad in The Hole in <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Santa Rosa</st1:place></st1:city>; also he was quite well known at The Ace in the Hole in Graton but this was a longer drive from home. I was thinking we should ask one of these pubs, maybe especially RRV Brewing Co since they make Beer, to donate a Keg or so of Beer to the Community Center Event. Any ideas?

DELEGATING RESPONSIBILITY<o:p></o:p>
As many people know, I’ve had a lot of experience with events, but this time I must definitely relinquish responsibility. Though I will probably have my fingers in a lot, I know I really can’t handle it all by myself. Please step forward with any coordinating skills you may have, as there are a lot of people ready to help and need to be put together.
This is a community effort, I can’t do it alone.<o:p></o:p>

Andrea Karolle, is trying to coordinate the current loosely knit group of people who’ve expressed an interest to volunteer with coordination of fundraising events / or the event.
Her email is: [email protected] ([email protected]). We also need someone to coordinate musicians/ entertainers.

WE want to go to <st1:country-region w:st="on">France</st1:country-region> or <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Congo</st1:country-region></st1:place>, but not under these conditions of forced family separation.
