I just moved here from Virginia about 3-4 weeks ago, and I'm staying out near Sebastopol. I've been rock climbing on and off for the past 12-13 years or so and would like to continue out here. Was wondering if anyone could help and point me towards a good friendly and local gear store. Somewhere where I can meet local climbers and just get some info on climbing in the area. Thanks for your help.

I'm way out of the loop, but I would suggest REI on 3rd St west of 101 in Santa Rosa.

I'm told there are some good faces off of highway 12 as you head towards Sonoma from Santa Rosa. I'm also told people climb at the coast, Goat Rock.

But I've never gotten my rope and gear out in the eleven years I've been in the county. If you want a partner, who was a novice in the mid-seventies and didn't really follow up much afterwards. Let's talk. I'll be out of town until next week.

Good luck and may your slips and falls be interesting and not traumatic!!

On belay!

hi.
there's a climbing gym in santa rosa called vertex, thats a great place to connect with other local climbers and find the really nice spots.
good luck and see you there, maybe.

Thanks for the info. I checked out the local REI who had a guy named Tim who was a great help. Grabbed a book named Bay Area Bouldering by Chris Summit that he recommended to start me off. I just joined the Vertex gym too-thinking I'm prollly gonna do the morning climb if anyone is into that... Just a little info on me for climbing: Top-rope and lead belayed numerous times, also lead a few routes on the east coast trad and bolted, good attitude, easy going/laid back, and I'm in my late 20s. Like I said I just joined Vertex so hit me back on here if you'd like to boulder/climb sometime.
