President Obama's economic stimulus package has reached Sonoma County. There will soon be funds available to non-profit corporations (501 (c)3) for purchase of foreclosed or abandoned residential property. The Lower River area - ie: Forestville, Guerneville, Rio Nido, Monte Rio, Occidental, Jenner, Cazadero need to decide as a community how our share of these funds should be used to benefit our area. Ideas that have been discussed range from supervised, co-operative living situations for people with disabilities to transitional independent living for families left homeless due to the economy. If a cohesive request is not presented to the County all the available funds will be used in the Central Corridor. The Russian River Interfaith Coalition is holding a Community Wide meeting to discuss how to acquire a share of these funds and in what manner the Community would like to see the money used.
