I post this story in the General Community area because I think it describes something we could do in Sonoma County. It's about how a Brazilian city makes food available as an inherent right of its population.

A city in Brazil recruited local farmers to help do something U.S. cities have yet to do: end hunger.

Here is one memorable quote from the story:

"I knew we had so much hunger in the world," Adriana said. "But what is so upsetting, what I didn't know when I started this, is it's so easy. It's so easy to end it."

Thank you for posting. Having worked in other countries for many years, many programs are easier to implement when you have a tight willing community. Here in Guerneville we are addressing this problem, among others ...The only obstacle is the inability to put class judgement aside and work together. We have plenty of people willing to donate land for food crop, many who are willing to get together and work with it for the sake of feeding others. I have always grown food the majority of which goes to local food banks and community. We discovered some years ago, that Solar powered Green Houses worked very well for speeding up the process. In actual fact, intentional communities that grow up around a built in Green Employment base are a very viable solution.

Everything is there but it seems difficult for the people here to get along for enouph time to implement. There are other countries where this is not such a big issue and therefore they get things done.

It is an inherit right for humans to take care of each other and make sure the basic staples are in.

Thank you again for posting. And as always, Wacco is a great place to hear supportive, creative and understanding voices, which is really helping me alot right now. :Yinyangv:Teri
