Several years ago I met an emotionally injured gal. To me, she looked that way, anyway. Fabulous woman. Priceless. I did what I could to help her heal, to grow. These days, she has healed, taken flight, and now exceeds my ability to climb with her. To her, I dedicate this poem.

Offered to the freedom of the wing, the whim, the wind
Confinement of an injured bird I hereby do rescind.
Spread your feathery fancy with your plumage open wide
May the ones who praise you from below endue your glide.

Laughing Dove of purity your eyes shall roam the earth
From the heights do stay aware my eyes will for you search
I will walk the valleys; green or faded who would know?
Strength I’ll have to muster when the mountains take the toll.

But you shall fly so light and carefree on the gentlest breeze
At the clouds of heaven’s gate you’ll soar with your reprise
Give the sun my warmest gratitude; your haloed wings
When the mornings come to pass recall me with your sings.

When the stormy nights should come, I pray you shelter find.
Now I lift my palm, you’re free, so leave your cage behind.
