Greetings. I just wanted to direct your attention to the availability of fresh organic young coconuts in Sebastopol! I came across them while shopping at Pacific Market. I in no way work for the market :) I'm just interested in seeing them continue to stock them. So shop here for your coconuts!
Whole Foods charges $2+ for young coconuts that have likely been dipped in formaldehyde (let alone any inorganic treatment prior to shipping). Asian markets in Santa Rosa charge about $1 a coconut. Now to have fresh organic coconuts available in northern california at a grocer! Awesome.
check them out:

Thanks. What's the price on these? I've been looking for cheaper ones. 99 Ranch has them for $1 each but that's in Richmond.

The organic coconuts at Pacific are $2.99. While I won't be buying these every week, it's still not outrageous considering the distance they must travel from the tropics and the effort to keep them organic!
The best deal I've found in Santa Rosa for inorganic cocos is at:
Phnom-Pehn
923 Petaluma Hill Rd
Santa Rosa, CA 95404
(707) 545-7426
A case of 9 is $9-10 i think...

Awesome, thanks. I always prefer organic and appreciate it when I can find it. Coconuts don't get sprayed or really treated during the growing process. I always get organic coconut oil because the non-organic is usually solvent-extracted. I was not aware of any treatments used on whole coconuts, whether young or mature. Do you have some references? I'd like to learn more.

Well, my initial assertion that inorganic young coconuts are dipped in formaldehyde prior to shipping was rumor. Now spurred by your post, I did a little research. My conclusion is that they are dipped in some kind of chemical/preservative to keep the hull white, at the least. Though it is not formaldehyde. Here are some sources:
