Hi All,

I'm wondering if any of you have experience being treated with eye injections of Avantin. It is used for wet macular degeneration and for Central Serous Retinopathy.

Also, do you have an eye doctor in this area that you highly recommend or anyone to "stay away from"?

Many thanks,
Suzanne

I believe you are talking about Avastin?

My Mother-in-law had this procedure done. It worked very well for her. It does not reverse the effects, but does stop it from getting worse.
There were very few side effects for her.......

She had a wonderful Dr, at Kaiser (but she also has a private practice)....I can't recall her name right now.......as soon as I think of it I will let you know.

Peace Voyager

I suggest renting "Gray's Anatomy" by Spalding Gray (This is one of his monologues, not the TV show).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gray%27s_Anatomy_(film (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gray%27s_Anatomy_%28film))

This was an interesting way for me to learn about eye health; he explored an unusual path to find the cause of his retina problems, which may also be of benefit for you. His findings enabled him to pass on having surgery. At the very least, I think you'll be entertained.

Good luck,

Colleen

I have reversed the damage of both macular degeneration and CSR in my eyes by using nutrition. Billberry will do this. I now use a billberry, eyebright, ginko, and leuten formula to prevent further damage (Solgar). The longer you have had it the longer it takes to reverse it, but it will stop further progression of the diseases. I learned the hard way that if I stopped taking the supplement it came back so now I use it regularly and have had no further problems.I have met other older folks who have had the same experience.

Thank you to each of you who replied publically and privately. Based on your email recommendations, I went to the Retinal Clinic in Santa Rosa and Dr. Schlessinger gave me an awesome explanation of my problem and specifically what the Avastin drug does. I was treated and will return in 6 weeks.

But here's the best part. I am a member of Kaiser. With no moaning about money from me, Dr. Schlessinger initiated an effort to see if Kaiser's retinal surgeon will continue my treatment(s) in both eyes as this is expensive and ongoing! He suggested this and that he would write my surgeon at Kaiser a letter!

WOW. A Western medicine doctor who prioritized saving me money vs taking my money. I walked out 4 hours later with tears of joy to be treated and to have my big bias against medicine for profit broken by the good intentions of Dr. Schlessinger.

Thank you all for helping me.
Suzanne

I needed an eye doctor and couldn't wait weeks for an appointment to be scheduled and so I saw Dr. Rich in Santa Rosa. I do not reccomend him and so I am still looking for a good eye doctor...a doctor, not an optomotrist. willing to take more reccomendations! irena
