Hi, I was in Coddingtown this week and it is a sad sight. I have shop there since 1979 (For you old timers it was before they had a roof). I have found a gem of a local owned taco shop.... THat is so much more than a *taco shop* though. He uses fresh, fresh ingredients. Makes salads fresh. Uses the best in olives oils etc. PLUS he makes food to order. He understands that I don't want a huge plate of food so he prepares 2 fresh carne asada soft tacos with rice, beans, chips and salsa. plus a soda it comes to $5. I would consider it larger than a *kids meal* that fills me without being overstuffed.

While I was there 2 local employees came by for lunch and their lunches looked delicious. One lady had a huge fresh salad. (He makes his own fresh dressings)

I do not know the owner but I told him I would post his shop on a messageboard with hopes that he can stay in business. I would say about 1/4 of the mall shops are gone including Toy West. (local owned) With the big gap of the missing Whole Foods it feels half empty.

Earth Works is on the way out too............maybe Gotschalks............maybe Macy's

Anyway I took one of his cards and it looks like they do Catering and Banquets.

I want to know put this out for debate.............

My husband is a State Worker that is NOT one of the worker's making $5,000
a month. He is a Stock clerk so we are just making it. He has a pay cut of 10% with a possible layoff. We have a 10 year old and I am a stay at home mom. I told my daughter we have to cut back 10% which means not going out to eat as much. THIS does not help the economy so I am going to be using coupons when I eat out. I am going local instead of any chains. We are going to be ordering water instead of drinks. Now this is where I have the problem I enjoy going out to eat but I feel like such a cheapstake using the Entertainment book coupons. (By the way is the Sonoma Express card still out there?) and not ordering drinks. I still tip using the amount before the coupon. I often wonder what the Servers think about the coupon thing.

My debate is even though I need to cut back I feel the need to help the economy should I be a cheapskate and still eat out or just stay home?

Besides owning restaurants I have been a server/bar tender and everything else in between. It used to be that food coupons meant if the people tipped at all they would tip based on the discount. Believe me when I say any server today will and should be glad to have any customer they can get, big or small tip. If you tip based on what you would have spent at say 15% the server will be thrilled! Times are getting tough, if we can support local businesses as much as possible, and stay out of chains, any money is well spent. Be proud you are still willing to part with your hard earned money for some fun and in return keep people employed and our favorite eateries open.

Where is Taco Max located exactly in the mall. I feel like a ding dong not knowing of this place and trying it in my 12 years here in Sonoma County. Could you provide exact location and types of food and price range if at all possible?
Thanks, Ann

I use the Entertainment card coupons a lot - its meant as a form of advertising for the merchants. And the server is getting a tip based on what would have been full price so everybody's happy. Coddingtown is looking shabby these days - but I'd be willing to try Taco Max. What part of the mall is it in?

Governor Arnold and his puppeteer Pete Wilson having been trying to break down the State employees and their union for years...Arnie has succeded with some inroads thanks to the Bush economy. Some of the secret State budget tax hikes have leaked out - 1% additional sales tax, 12 cent a gallon gas tax, about 50% higher car registration taxes and an additional half a percent state income tax. Meanwhile our legislators are partying at high end spa resorts on their campaign contributor's dime while telling us that we need to take a "haircut" or sacrifice for the common good. And they are using secret slush funds to pay their employees (not subject to furloughs) extra raises.

Since the political and corporate elite are more than looking out for their own interests and even rubbing our noses in it, why feel any hesitation about using coupons? Something tells me they don't have our best interests in mind...what ever happened to that trickle down theory? Now its trickle up.

Hi A few kind people have e-mailed me off the thread with questions. I pulled the Chef's business card and they have a website. www.tacomaxgroup.com (https://www.tacomaxgroup.com) will answer some of the questions.

Someone asked where in Coddingtown they are located. They are kind of in the middle next to Old Navy.

Does anyone notice that Codding still thumbs his nose at the city council by keeping his sign going...............

Thanks for all the Kind e-mails GO TEAM WACCO Missy
