The remarkable aspect of Dr. Steinman's treatment is that he is having success with supposedly incurable patients using old fashioned talk therapy.

Treating the Untreatable
San Francisco-based psychiatrist Ira Steinman has been working with schizophrenia patients for 45 years. He joins us to talk about his new book, "Treating the Untreatable: Healing in the Realms of Madness."

Gee phooph, that's about the most misleading "educational" video I've ever seen. It's so narrow, one sided, and misinforming it's a caricature.

Try this for another perspective. It's science, not slander: New UCLA Study Disputes Antidepressant/Suicide Link; Scientists Fear Rise in Deaths From Untreated Depression / UCLA Newsroom (https://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/New-UCLA-Study-Disputes-Antidepressant-5880.aspx?RelNum=5880)

I do hope you listened to the interview with Dr. Steinman, also.

Considering UCLA's dependence on fat grants from drug companies I am not surprised at their findings. I see they just got $2.5M from Burroughs Wellcome to study the diabetes and obesity epidemics. I predict the research will be weighted most heavily on treatment and prevention with new drugs as opposed to lifestyle changes. "We live at a point in time when metabolic diseases are rising faster than we can keep up, even as breathtaking scientific discoveries are being made that are unprecedented in the history of biomedical sciences," said Dr. Thomas Drake, program co-director and a professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Geffen School of Medicine. "So the question many of us often ask is, how can we harness the major advances in biomedical sciences to bring out preventive and treatment measures to conquer what appears to be the public health nemesis of our time?"

The charges of deaths and other unpleasant side effects from SSRI drugs originated in the medical community from observation of many patients over a long period of time. Some European countries have banned their use on children as a result of increased suicides and violence and the use in the US has been curtailed. The Physicians Desk Reference states that antidepressants can cause mania, psychosis, abnormal thinking, paranoia, hostility, aggression, agitation, confusion, amnesia, abnormal dreams, sleep disorders and a host of other adverse neuropsychiatric effects. The number of people on SSRIs who have commited acts of violence is worth noting. I lived with someone going through Paxil withdrawl and had to move out for my safety.

One would expect the industry to fight back. The narrowness and misinformation is rampant on the other side of the issue also, and more so considering the amounts of money involved.

By the way, post menopausal depression runs in my family and I have had to deal with it. I use only natural, non-toxic, nutrient based treatments that do not screw up my brain chemistry. I once used Zoloft which turned me into a zombie and made me feel tense all over. My sister was on Paxil but is now controlling her depression with choline/inositol. I use that and SAM-e as well as low dose lithium orotate (https://www.tahoma-clinic.com/lithium1.shtml) which has the added benefit of preventing and reversing age realated brain degeneration. I have no unpleasant or dangerous side effects. If I don't take them I just get depressed again. No crazyness or unpleasant withdrawl symptoms that make me want to hurt someone.
