Greetings,
I am hoping to get my dog certified as a therapy dog, and have been looking into different programs. Does anyone have any experience with the Paws for Healing orginization, or know of any others? My dog has the perfect disposition for this line of volunteerism, and I am particularly interested in taking her to convalecent/assisted living homes and/or hospitals. Any info and feedback you may have would be much appreciated, thanks!

The Humane Society has a great program to get you started. They will certify your dog with a good canine certificate. My therapy dog was also part fo the Delta Society.

Good luck. It is incredibly rewarding.

Therapy Pets is a great organization; I am a health care professional and have used volunteers from this agency in facilities where I worked. Pet Therapy is amazing and does wonders for people in many types of settings.

Good luck,
Rosalie

Just visit the homes and hospitals and talk to them- you will find out exactly what you need. I went to one home and all they asked for was that the animal (any kind) behaves and has all the shots required and licensed. I could come in most any time and just be there. Homes have different requirements. Good luck and happy times....

Are these programs free? And do you know of any that train for specific ailments? for free? disabled on limited income and my dogs ARE therapy, but it would be nice if they were trained to help my specific needs. Thanks!
