What are those loud explosions going on now (2:30pm) in the area of Green Hill Rd and Occidental Rd.? They can't be gun fire can they?

Thanks for asking this question, because I'd like to know, too. I keep thinking I'll read about it in the paper sometime, but no. I didn't know exactly where they were coming from. I'm west of the Fircrest neighborhood, and I pictured something out near the Laguna north of 12. Have you called the City? I will tomorrow I think.

Larry, if you're reading this, maybe you know?

Did anyone find out what caused this?

I live right behind Fiesta and experience lots of loud noises from the trucks unloading goods, etc.; but these blasts were much louder than usual.

Thanks,

Colleen

Well, I just talked to the Sheriff's Dept. and they told me that (you're not going to believe this) somebody at their residence, was "blowing up gophers". Wow, a lot of gophers must have been sent to gopher heaven then. And what do they use? TNT?

Believe it or not...the explosions are a gopher erradication procedure. They pump propane into a gopher hole and then ignite it.

my neighbor used one for a while - the dogs all hated it. It was a setup about the size & shape of a weed-whacker. There was a small tank, a long tube that you could stick in the gopher hole, and a sparker like the ones you can use to light a barbeque. I don't know that it ever hurt any gophers, though.
There's an urban legend - in this case, I guess a rural legend - of a flaming gopher coming out of his hole and burning down the fields/house of the guy who was trying to exterminate him. For all I know it's even true.
