I'm sorry to say that the Safari web browser for the Mac does not support the use the WYSIWYG* formatting controls when you post. For example, you will not be able to select a word and click on the Bold button and see the word bolded. Instead you'll notice some codes inserted into your editor, however they are not inserted properly and if you post the text it will not look correct.

However, if you are using Mac OS 10 (OS X) there are 2 other Mac browsers that do support the formatting controls. They are Firefox and Camino. Both are very reputable and FREE and can be found at

https://www.mozilla.org/products/

I dont work on a Mac so I can't reccomend one over the other. Perhaps some of you Mac users can chime in on this thread with your comments.

Sorry Barry, but it's not Safari that's the problem - it's the skin (https://www.waccobb.net/forums/showthread.php?t=162). I'm using Safari right now and the WYSIWYG editors work just fine - for example, I'm now going to click on the "B" editor to make the word "bold" change to => bold

According to my testing, the problem is with the Safari browser not the "skin". (Bob, if you care to dispute this contact me privately).

I installed Firefox on a friend's Mac and not only did all the WaccoBB.net editor controls work just fine, Firefox worked much faster than Safari in general.

I have been using Firefox for about a year on my iMac G5. A few days ago I had a major crash to my hard drive which I believe may have been caused by Firefox. I discovered recently that Firefox is not compatible with Yahoo Mail. There is a new version of Firefox that may be causing people more problems, not less. I have been using the Firefox discussion board to try and figure out why a ten-year collection of bookmarks has vanished off of my computer. Firefox has no technical support. I am still using Firefox out of habit, but I am planning to switch to Safari because browser problems can be fixed and helped through Apple Support. They were not able to help me with my Firefox problem but they did really try to help me find my bookmarks. There is a new bookmarks file in the place where it is supposed to be since I downloaded the new version of Firefox but the old bookmarks seem to be completely gone. I can recreate my collection from bookmarks in previous browsers prior to using Firefox so that only the bookmarks from the past year will be gone, but this is a huge hassle and a big loss of last year's saved resources. I now know how to backup my bookmarks by using Export but that info is a moment too late. I have been looking with a fine toothed comb to see if the lost bookmarks are hiding somewhere but they seem to be deleted. Firefox was operating when the crash occurred and everything Firefox was gone when I reinstalled my software, even though everything else was archived and saved.
I cannot recommend Firefox, even though I have been enjoying it as a browser. It worked fine for a long time but the degree of problems that it caused on my computer is unacceptable, and Mozilla is doing nothing about the fact that I am having the same problems that many other people are having. Major crashes, especially with Yahoo, are common and problems with bookmarks happen literally every day as evidenced by my recent participation at the Firefox discussion board.
I hope that I will still be able to use WaccoBB.net because I am planning to switch my browser to Safari which is much more reliable and backed up with technical support from Apple.
Thanks for the warning that this could be problematic here.

I had major problems with Firefox and Yahoo! Mail awhile ago (this was when I was using Panther (10.3.x) and the previous version of Firefox). However, after installing Tiger (10.4.5) and updating to Firefox (1.5.0.1), I haven't had any serious problems using Firefox and Yahoo! Mail, in fact Yahoo! Mail works better for me in Firefox than Safari does. As for Yahoo! Mail and the Mac, you should know that it isn't supported by Yahoo!. I found this unfortunate info out last year when I was trying to archive my Yahoo! Mail and after numerous emails back and forth to Yahoo! tech support was told that the Mac platform is not supported.

There is a new version of Firefox that may be causing people more problems, not less. I have been using the Firefox discussion board to try and figure out why a ten-year collection of bookmarks has vanished off of my computer.

This sounds like it could be a rewrite over the old bookmarks file. If so, then that's that - your bookmarks were erased by the new file, sorry. If you're not already aware of it, you can store your bookmarks in your My Yahoo! (this is what I've been doing for years). Also check out del.icio.us (https://del.icio.us/) as another place for storing all your bookmarks off your computer.

As for Web based email options, GMail from Google (https://gmail.com) does support the Mac platform and works great (I've switched a few friends of mine over to it - no complaints). Also, GMail recently started offering the ability to compose/reply from any email account you own (a feature I pay $20 a year for to have Yahoo! Mail Plus do the same thing). Unfortunately, unless you have a Yahoo! Mail Plus account, mail forwarding is not possible (on the other hand, what's $20 these days?...). In any event, what you might consider doing is this:

1. Open a GMail account
2. Add your Yahoo! Mail address in your GMail settings and set the Yahoo! Mail address as the default.
3. Pay the $20 to Yahoo! to upgrade to Mail Plus then forward your Yahoo! Mail to your GMail address.

Doing this will allow you to keep using your Yahoo! address - both for composing and replying - but within the GMail interface. In other words, instead of logging into Yahoo! Mail, you log in to GMail. Works great!
