I've heard that there have been more break-ins around town. The cemetery on Bodega/Pleasant Hill had their office broken into and a computer stolen. The Methodist Church across from Safeway has been broken into and items stolen.
I also heard that a home on High School Rd was broken into and had items stolen. Also a home in the Fircrest Mobile home park was trespassed but the suspect was scared and left before taking anything.
The police have told me that our homeless population has tripled in the last 4-5 months, and that with the budget crisis, the lease violent offenders from county and state jails get out earlier, or don't go to prison at all, which means that those convicted of burglary (not robbery, which is when you actually threaten someone) are given lighter or no sentences or released earlier.
Also, with a new homeless shelter opening in Santa Rosa but close to the bike path, we are seeing a new population of homeless who come to town during the day along the bike path and then head back at night, or stay in the encampments that are by the laguna. I'm not saying all the homeless are criminals, but I do know that the person who broke in to my home told the police he was homeless. He was not arrested because they didn't feel that that enough evidence, and he appears now to have left town.
I think the best that we can do is share information and keep a real watch out over our community. If you know of a store or home that has had a burglary, let's share that info and see if there is a pattern emerging.

I can see why dys is your code name. You like to dys unknown persons. Homeless people have it hard enough making it in these hard times without aomeone sitting on a pile of posessions assumes that the homeless are trying to take STUFF away from them. If you don't want to be part of our economic problems then hire a homeless person. They are all about and most of them would love to work even for a day. Unfortunately these jobs are passed our at a "labor cente" in Graton. I volunteer with the homeless in Santa Rosa and I know persons who go to Labor Ready every day and get only 6 paid hours a week. Don't pity OR be afraid of the homeless. They are your sons, fathers, daughters and friends. Give everyone a cheery good morning and make the world a better place. Hire THE HOMELESS. Have a better week. Ice Queen

wow, where do i even start with that load of crap..
first.. ice queen, you mock my name, why is that your user name? i guess it's fairly obvious.. if you add the vowels to dysbtwn, you come up with "days between", the last song jerry garcia and robert hunter wrote..
two, you assume I'm sitting on a pile of possessions? you don't know crap about my life.. that i work for a non-profit but have been recently been laid off.. so don't tell me to go out and "hire a homeless" or that i'm part of the economic problem..
three, i'm not assuming that all homeless people want to take what little i have.. i'm just stating facts, that the person who did steal from me, identified himself as homeless to the police, that the police confirmed he was part of a group of homeless in our town, and that the police are telling me that we are seeing an increase in homeless in our town..
there is a correlation between addiction and homelessness, mental illness and homelesses, as well as homeless by economic conditions and by choice.. i'm not necessarily thrilled to see groups of homeless drinking 40 oz beers or smoking meth in the morning downtown... of course not all of them do that, but the ones that have to feed an addiction will resort to theft..and it appears that our town is seeing an increase in theft..
your choice of words, about the jobs going to the "labor center", show you to be racist, as if that population doesn't deserve to work..
has your house ever been broken into, ransacked, every drawer opened, pulled out and dropped on the floor, every piece of clothes and papers picked through, every thing valuable taken from you?
all i'm trying to do, as a member of the community is share facts with other members so that we can watch out for each other so it won't happen again to someone else, most of the community has been supportive of these efforts.....
in case you haven't noticed, the economy is in deep shit.. this is a depression, the sad fact isthat with so many people out of work, it's going to be really hard for anyone to get a job in the days ahead...
