This delightful young Ukrainian woman has been confined to a wheelchair since 1996 due to severe scoliosis and spinal atrophy. She has an upbeat personality and many friends. She enjoys helping her friends with cosmetics and facial makeup. Her family has hosted several young people from Sebastopol through the sister city exchange program. She does outstanding knitting, embroidery, and other handcrafts. Lena is also taking correspondence courses in psychology from a university, but she is not able to get out much. A wheelchair that fits her and that is in good repair would allow her much more independence.
Lena lives in our sister city — Chyhyryn, Ukraine. There are no satisfactory wheelchairs available in her oblast (state) so Sebastopol World Friends plans to raise $1000 by January 15, 2009, to buy Lena a new wheelchair. Sebastopol World Friends has opened a special account for donations toward a wheelchair for her.
