Hello lovely WACCO-BB'ers:
I am looking for a place or host (or party!) on the morning of the Obama Inauguration - it starts at around 8am PT.
I do not own a TV or have access to cable, so I am hoping to find someone who does & won't mind another person watching w/them.
I would think such an historic event would have something at the Demos HQ, but I cannot locate anything as of yet...
IF you DO want to host a party, I'm willing to bring something: Hot Tea, Noisemakers, Extra Chairs, whatever!!
Let me know if you know of anything, thanks!
Glad we are in a New Year & Era,
Paula

FYI - PREFERABLY a place in SEBASTOPOL or WEST COUNTY.
I'd love to go to a gathering of like-minded folks, but cannot see using gas to get to Berkeley, as nicofrog suggests.
If nothing turns up out this way, I have a friend in Railroad Square who says I can go over to her house that morning....
PLEASE KEEP POSTING IF YOU HEAR OF ANYTHING - I'm working on finding out if there is anything planned by the different Obama or Democrat groups here in Sonoma County & West County. No luck as of yet.
Thanks! Paula

MoveOn just sent out requests for organizers to set up local Inauguration watch parties. Maybe you (or someone you know) could sign up to organize and host one at a restaurant or other public place with a TV. It would certainly be more comfortable than the grotty Dem HQ.
Starting the party at 8AM might be a bit much... maybe make it a lunch thing from 11AM to 1PM.

Funny--I'm looking for the same thing. A few people have emailed me asking where they can go locally to watch the inauguration, and I have no idea. If anyone finds anything, please email me or leave a comment at:
Local Inauguration Events? (https://santarosa.about.com/b/2009/01/09/local-inauguration-events.htm)
I'll also be checking back here.
If I find anything out, I'll post it here.
Thanks!

Here are a few inauguration events going on in Santa Rosa--but none of these are places you can go to to actually watch the inauguration. Instead, they are parties/dinners later that night.
FREE, All Ages, Inauguration Party at the Russian River Brewing Company, featuring the 11 piece Motown Funk Band, Cloud 9. 8 - 11pm; 725 4th Street.
The Great West End & Railroad Square Inaugural Dinner Enjoy a reinterpretation of Abraham Lincoln’s inaugural luncheon featuring mock turtle soup, corned beef & cabbage, parsley potatoes, blackberry pie and coffee. Bring your favorite wine or beer to share. 7 – 10pm; at the New Arts Project, 606 Wilson St., (707) 570-0128. Tickets (https://brownpapertickets.com/event/52899)are $20.
Inauguration party at the Red Rose Cafe (https://www.redrosecafe.com/) with a Cajun buffet plus music by Reggae band Midnight Sun of Sonoma. Call for tickets. $20 for buffet and party, or $12 for only the party. 5pm; 1770 Piner Rd., Santa Rosa, 573-9741.

I am going to check out and see if my friends at the Casino Grill and Bar in Bodega (not a casino!) will be open early inauguation morning. They usually open around 9a.m. but might be willing to open at 8. The place is big with 2 tv`s at the bar and a big screen in the dining room. The site of many a community event. Plenty of parking and right on Bodega hwy in the town of Bodega. They do limited grill food during the day but if they expected enough people the cook might show up and do breakfast. Definately potential for a joyus west county inaugural gathering. I`m going to look into it today to see if they`ll be open at 8a.m

If they're up for it, would you be willing to set it up as an event on MoveOn.org?

If they are up for it, and I`d say chances are real good, I will definately be willing to set it up as an event at MoveOn.org. My friend who lives right there is going to talk to them today. And I`ll be in there tommorow. Should know somthing by tommorow evening.

If my memory serves me correctly (which isn't always the case), I believe I read in one of their posts that they will provide some supplies for the event. I think Moveon.org is a good route to go, so sorry it's not really a casino : ( .

Re: The Casino Grill and Bar, Bodega. I talked to the owners, Greg and Elizibeth. They are having a Bye Bye Bush Party Monday Night the 19th and were`nt planning to open till 10 a.m. Inauguration Day. When I told them a bunch of people were intested in getting together to watch Inauguration Live at 8.a.m. they were open to the idea and interested the number of people that might actually show up that early. They asked me to get back to them in a few days with some sort of estimate so I guess I`ll go ahead and post this as a tentative event at MoveOn.org to check out the interest. Sure would be a great spot to get together.

Thanks for doing this legwork. I'm hoping this happens, since Bodega would be the most convenient - and fun! - place that I have heard about so far - close to Sebastopol, etc.
There is something happening that morning at the Demo HQ as well, in Downtown Santa Rosa, for anyone who is near that location. Here is the blurb I received:
The SonomaCounty Democratic Central Committee
happily invites volunteers to a complimentary
Inauguration Continental Breakfast
8:00 am to 10:00 am Tuesday, January 20, 2009
at Democratic Headquarters
702 2nd Street, Santa Rosa, California
Bring quarters for parking or use the parking structure!

MoveOn.org Political Action (https://pol.moveon.org/event/events/index.html?action_id=158&id=&search_distance=15&search_zip=94931&submit=Search)
You can enter the number of miles you are willing to travel and MoveOn will give you a list of all the parties taking place within that distance. I found many within 15 miles of my home in Cotati. I believe most, if not all, were evening parties--some in private homes and some in public spaces and commercial establishments. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, the Casino Bar will not be opening early Tuesday morning, Jan 20. We have scheduled maintenance going on Monday night so no Bye-Bye Bush Party either. We will be open our regular hours, 10AM to close, both days. Thanks for your interest.

Hi Folks,
Our G-ville family--no TV access--is also looking for a place to watch the inauguration tomorrow morning. Since I now know there are others out there wanting the same thing, I plan on knocking at the door of some local restaurants this afternoon to see if any of them would be willing create a public viewing space. (Hey, they might even make a few bucks on coffee and doughnuts.)
Yes...this is very last minute--and probably a long shot; I'll re-post late afternoon/early evening with an update.

I don't have a t.v. either...and was looking for a place to go to in Santa Rosa...Later in the day...I wanna' watch the foo-foo stuff, all the party dresses, and people smiling...:)...
Don't care for Russian River Brewing Co. - the place that is...Oh well...
Okay, there's the 'move on' thing...Can I really 'crash' a house party?...
I called Union Hotel in East Santa Rosa, and they'd be willing to open early so folks can watch the inauguration. There are a couple of large TV screens and they'll be serving coffee and pastries. He said they'll try to open before 8:30am--maybe 8:15 or so--but will surely be open by 8:30. And they'll keep the TV tuned to the inauguration through the day.
I'll probably go for a while. Anyone else interested?

Hello Again,
La Tapatia in downtown Guerneville has agreed to open early so folks can gather to watch the inauguration! They will open at 8am. (I, for one, will be thanking them by buying one of their fine breakfasts.)
Their address is 16632 Main Street. It's on the main drag, about 1/4 mile West of the G-ville Safeway.
Hope to see you there,

If you've got (broadband) Internet access...
Huffington Post has this page - Obama's Inauguration Video, Liveblog, Information (https://tinyurl.com/7wlefv) - with a link to an MSNBC feed.
Also, I've been using this CNN link - CNN.com Live (https://tinyurl.com/75mck6) - on occasion. It's the camera feeds only, no commercials or talking heads. I'm hoping it's working tomorrow morning.
I think I saw a sign on Hopmonk that said they're opening at 9AM to watch (which is odd 'cause I think the "swearing in" is at 8:30?).
And I'm just realizing that no one is likely to read this note until tomorrow night when it's all water under the bridge anyway.
Oh well. I'm just happy that we have a new King...
Peace,
- R
