My house is totally taken over by ants. I don't want to use any toxic chemicals to get rid off them. Does anyone have any solution to this ? I'll greatly appreciate your help. Thanks, Safron Cat.

According to a friend of mine, peppermint oil works well.

My old standby is boric acid. safe for people, but softens ants' exoskeletons so they go outside because they dehydrate.

Also consider untreated diatomaceous earth. it gets in the ants' joints and dehydrates them.

Hi--we've had continuing ant wars for years (this year since late summer). It's a bummer, for sure. We use a combination of toxic and green: peppermint oil is a great deterrent, but usually, when we see where they're coming into the house, we'll spray just a bit of the toxic spray. Where they've made a trail, we'll spread the peppermint oil to hopefully wreck their own chemical messages.

For big invasions, we vacuum up the trail to it's source, spray at the point of entry, then lay down the essential oil. It's not perfect, but it keeps them guessing. They are certainly nothing if not persistant!

this happens at a house i stay at in San Diego. the smallest amount of food left out - or water - or anything, and the ants are "on it".

so, when i stay there, i keep the garbage cans outside, make sure not to get any food crumbs on the carpet, etc.

basically, that makes a big difference. it makes for sort of an antiseptic lifestyle - all the food has to be stored in sealed containers, can't let the dog eat a treat indoors because it will get food on the carpet, etc.

REMOVE the source(s) of attraction and trace & block the entry ways.
In da Future.....Always escort the first scouts to the outdoors. If you are diligent, it may prevent an invasion!

When ants invade my house I set a dish of moistened sugar near their trail. When they have discovered it, I move it outside near their entrance. I keep it replenished and move it gradually away from the house. This works 100% of the time except when it is pouring down rain.
