Better Homeless Gardens to Rescue!

The current "financial crisis" had not been generally anticipated by the experts and therefore it is not impossible that even worse could happen unannounced--a day may come when even a lot of money will not buy anything and people will be left without the basic necessities for life--especially without food. It would be wise to start contemplating some counter-measures for such days that might never come, but--who knows?

I would like to propose that non-profit, self-supporting, time tested "homeless gardens"(1) become a permanent feature of every community to serve a several functions at once:

* to provide an employment and a training to homeless and low income citizens, and to provide camping sites for homeless gardeners,

* to offer locally organically grown produce to local population,

and

* in times of emergency the homeless gardens would be there ready to help to convert any available land to "Victory Gardens" that would provide food for local residents.

Thank you, Hearthstone.

N.B.: The Homeless Garden Project, Santa Cruz is subsidized and doesn't, to my knowledge, provide camping opporunities to the homeless gardeners.
This in contrast to the proposal above. H.S.

This is a GREAT IDEA many of us have shared for years:
the kink is the county, health and building code and zoning regulations
There are AG. Labor camps allowed all around Sonoma county for
unspecified migrant workers, probably carefully monitored by the health
dept. and "porta pottied" this is a shame about the "P P's" because they represent the antithesis of sustainable waste management, mixing
useful nitrogen with harmful chemicals and dumping them in the already polluted bay sucks. time to march on the county courthouse and change these barbaric practices(same for burning man by the uk-environmentally way)
Ag workers are also allowed to live in sub-standard trailer housing all over west county, the county Looks-away from this having recently passed an anti-hippy ordinance against living in portable vehicles in Son. County.
( not tested in court yet) just a slap suit tool.
So for now look for your homeless camp/garden in Ag. zoned areas, and plan on constructing a very up-scale boyscout camp style scene ,like camp meeker.
Later, if things get worse, people will start to make more sence like they have for years in russia, and china, and compost all food waste and humanure. grow most food locally, find and protect local freshwater sources, especially rainwater harvesting and MULCH everything 8" deep
no more weedwhackers.break um in half, get woodchips, watch the rivers and creeks fill up with more water than they've had in 20 years.
blah blah blah rant rant rant
I love this Wacco county
Laws and all N
