View Full Version : New Post Bolding Not Working

Hey Barry,

For some reason today, the bolding of unread new posts is not working for me. Everything is in normal text. I only read the waccobb traffic online on the website (for all you digest receivers, if you have a decent connection speed, I can't recommend this method more highly. It's so much faster and more flexible than opening a long email and scrolling through!).

Always before, the unread or un-"Mark All Read" posts were titled in Bold. Now they're not. I can still tell which ones I haven't read from the time code, but it's not as user friendly. I've not changed any settings so I'm at a loss as to why.

P.S. Obama Won!!!! It is a great day in the land! How unusual to have a smart, well-educated, articulate, thoughtful and calm person for U.S. President. Not to mention that he's black. I really did kvell during his acceptance speech. And he's not even my party's candidate. I hope for good things from and by him. But as he said, we've all got a lot of work to do!

He's very good at saying the right things. I sure hope he's half as good at doing them. Sure will be a huge difference from BushCo. As a life-long anti-racist, egalitarian and provisional anti-authoritarian radical democrat, I am looking forward to the upcoming four years.

As a resident of Chicago for thirteen years, Hyde Park for the first five, it was great to see my old neighbors out in force in Grant Park.

And as a Radical Lefty (Rightwing Troll Bait Warning!) did anyone else mark Michelle Obama's red and black dress? And the English version of "Si Se Puede"? Any hidden messages bursting out there that I'd previously missed?

Maybe he really is a Socialist! If so I hope he's one of the thoughtful ones who shuns the M-L tradition of bloody-minded ends-are-the-means blinkered doctrinaire action at the expense of democracy, tolerance and flexibility.

By all reports he's a consensus building centrist who seeks all views. So not much fear about him being the next Che. Still, her bright red and black outfit, mirrored by his suit and tie. Could have been the bourgie black-block for all I could tell!!!

Amazing times we all live in....

P.P.S. I hope the numbers for Rue turn around in the wee hours. So far it looks like the big money forces bought another one. At least Shirlee is ahead, maybe the liberal environmentalist position on the Supes will switch from the 5th to the 3rd.

But there will be a big turnaround by the time I get up at 4:00 a.m., yes there will, if I only want it hard enough it'll all come true, right?

Hey Miles,

We installed an update yesterday that is probably responsible for the change in bolding, though it was not intended. I'll look into it.

What was intended is that you now will be taken to the first unread post (by you) when you click on a thread (from the last 60 days).

Barry

Update: This seems to be working just fine. Anybody else see a problem with the bolding of unread threads?

Hasn't been working for two days for me.

Please explain. So are you saying that say you goto the Events and Classes category and all threads are non-bolded including new ones you haven't seen yet?

Correct, and the new feature that takes you to the first unread post doesn't work either, if I understand your description. Just works like it has in the past. Clicking First Unread does work.

I don't use the categories.

I go to "New Posts"

Until two days ago (approx) everything I had not clicked on (aka read) were bold.

Now everything is non-bold. So it looks like I have visited every thread.

I'm Not ALONE!!?

Sigh....

The problem persists for me as well. And I don't use the categories when checking new traffic either. Nor would I care to.

At least twice a day I go to "New Posts", read the bolded ones that interest me, which are now not in bold. When done I hit "Mark All Read" so that the next time I visit only new posts are bold, or were bold but haven't been for a couple of days.

I love the drop down synopses because they help me decide which posts to open and read, when the Title doesn't provide enough info to decide.

As subscribers grow, and consequently the traffic increases, these conveniences make it possible for me to monitor the conversations. Without the bolding, I may give up because just staying up with the various threads that interest me is taking more and more of my time.

Old waccobb threads never die, they just get resurrected by new members!

Obama Lama Ding Dong, Let's ring the gong for the new regime, hopefully not the same as the old one!!!

Replying to my own post, how narcissistic! But I have additional information for you Barry that "might" help.

When I first visit the website the categories with posts I haven't read are flagged. Only after I use "Mark All Read" do they go to their default unbolded (?) position.

So the system is indicating which categories have unread, by me, posts. But the bolding under "new posts" isn't taking.

Hope this helps. Love all that you do for us.

OK, I see the problem. Thanks everybody for letting me know! We'll have it fixed soon! (Right, Richard?)

We're going to be working on the website and digest more now. We'll test it internally but some un-intended consequences are going to sneak through, as well as other new features that will need to be tuned a bit. Your kind feedback is most welcome as we go along!

The "button" to click to go to last post is absent as well....must scroll thru entire last page of poems to get to today's Larry Robinson selected poem.......not so good for me either....Thank you,...Mindy

Yep, its working now. Thanks to my programmer, Richard!

You'll also notice that the icon/link to first new post are gone. Now all thread links (with new posts in the last 60 days) goto the first new-to-you post in that thread. Please let me know how that works for you.

That's a bit different. It's a link to the last post, rather than the first unread post.

Apparently we don't have it just right right :( , but we'll make jumping to the first unread post work from the New Posts list, too. Soon.

Now seems to be working, auto matically redirecting me to first unread post! The boldness for unread is also again working. Magic. Thank you. Mindy
