A lot of people have been asking me about Prop 10, which is leading in the polls after a barrage of ads. Prop 10 is a total disaster, funded almost entirely by Texas oil and natural gas billionaire T. Boone Pickens, who would be the biggest beneficiary of the initiative if it passes.
* T. Boone Pickens is using Prop 10 to pick California's vehicles of the future, and he has chosen his moneymaker, natural gas, over hybrids, biofuels and plug-in hybrids. Pickens's company is the largest seller of natural gas fuels in the United States.
* Prop 10 also would allow out-of-state trucking companies to get $50,000 of California bond money for each natural gas powered truck they purchase (and suck up the measure's pool of rebate money) even if the trucks are never intended for California use.
* Natural gas is a nonrenewable, fossil fuel, and Prop 10 would make it harder for cleaner technologies to succeed.
My colleague Judy Dugan co-wrote one of the ballot arguments against Prop 10 (https://www.voterguide.sos.ca.gov/argu-rebut/argu-rebutt10.htm?lk=8108900-8108900-0-34134-6uPk/XxyhLvRB6kFmzgpxSijFcYf3PFp), and you can read her detailed take on the initiative here (https://www.oilwatchdog.org/articles/?storyId=22564&lk=8108900-8108900-0-34134-6uPk/XxyhLvRB6kFmzgpxSijFcYf3PFp).
Prop 10 is a $10 billion energy disaster that would serve T. Boone Pickens and his shareholders and transform California from an alternative fuel leader to little more than a profit center for a Texan's natural gas company.
That's why the Sacramento Bee wrote "In the pantheon of egregious ballot initiatives, Proposition 10 is the worst of the worst."
I hope this is helpful,
