A creature with an obligation is never detained by situation.

You should alwayz do what you say, not being flaky or even forgetful or not even given in, given up, or given to another. When a creature makes or is aware of an obligation, the task at hand should come before all other.

Althou the statement is rather vague, that is what I have gotten from the quote! Maybe the post office can use it! PEACE!

When I have visited the desert and wanted to go hiking, I would look around for some interesting-looking distant point as a destination. I found that what worked best was to hold an image of that point in one part of my mind and then to bring my attention to my immediate surroundings (literally, my "circumstance"). I would begin moving towards my destination but with my attention on what was right there in front of me - what I needed to deal with where I was. Most of the time I reached my destination and enjoyed the process that getting there entailed.
So perhaps commitment includes both trust and a sense of personal power - that I can deal with what I encounter and that I won't be stopped by "circumstances," at least not indefinitely. It means trusting my own judgment that where I want to go (or what I want to achieve) is a desirable goal and that I can deal with and overcome whatever stands in the way. Commitment seems to be an attitude, that may be described as "I can" and "what if" - an open sense of curiosity and willingness to try new things, of viewing 'circumstance' as a challenge rather than as an insurmountable barrier.
I wonder - could this apply to building the relationships, communities and society we desire and need?
Thanks for posting this -
