I plan on voting No. How about you?
"Summary of Legislative Analyst’s Estimate of Net State and Local Government Fiscal Impact:
Net increase in state costs that are likely within a few years to exceed $500 million annually, primarily due to increasing state spending for various criminal justice programs to at least $965 million, as well as for increased costs for prison and parole operations. These costs would increase by tens of millions of dollars annually in subsequent years.
Potential one-time state capital outlay costs for prison facilities that could exceed $500 million due to increases in the prison population."
==================
Even if this was a good idea in a year of financial windfall and surplus (which it's not), at a time when the state is in a historical financial disaster it's ludicrous this proposition is even on the ballot.
Vote No!

This is one where we need to read the full text. Prop 6 increases punishment and sentencing for crimes commited by those considered to be associated with gangs. It also makes possession of any amount of methanphetamine a felony. It also requires criminal background checks for those applying for public housing assistance. I am no friend of gangs, meth etc. but this seems aimed at low income and/or Latino communities. It has very loose rules as to what makes someone a gang member (basically, commiting certain crimes in the company of another person). Vote how you like, but be informed!:thumbsup:

I voted no....!
A petty aside:
Moderator, moderate thyself. Barry, isn't this in the wrong forum? Perhaps Wacco Talk.
Citizens' law enforcement money would be best spent on increased treatment programs for drug users, rather than financing increased penalties and incarceration.

I started discussions of the CA propositions in the General Community category because they are of near universal interest to our community. Yeah, they could/should have been posted in the WaccoTalk category, but this felt like an appropriate exception. If the discussion got either off-track or heated I would have moved it.
