Our teen is ready to start learning how to drive. But where? We refuse to go to some expensive driving school and would much rather do the teaching ourselves.
My question to this community is where are some good places where our teen can start to get the basics of driving? Can anyone think of a good location? Such as a specific parking lot or out of the way rural area that is accessible (not someone's private property), etc?
Thanks in advance,
Gary

Both of my teenagers learned to drive at Miller Driving school. While it is expensive, there are huge benefits.
They teach current laws and rules of the road that seem to be changing constantly.
DMV will grant a permit to you child at 15 1/2 years of age after completing a course from a driving school.
They meet your child at school for behind the wheel training.
The classroom work is full of their peers. They discuss horror stories, watch movies, and go out to lunch together.
I think Miller driving school is expensive and worth every penny.

I looked up the school's website, below, and found their most expensive package deal to be $490. Although we are tight on funds right now we talked about it and we feel it's worth it. We will pay for that program as soon as we can afford it but it won't be any sooner than next year in 2009. For now, we'll be our adolescent's driving instructors. After a basic understanding of driving skills from mom and dad, having our kid's skills polished by a professional outfit is ideal.
