Although most everybody on our local bulletin board is trustworthy and I have yet to hear of a problem when selling an item here, I am sorry to say that there have been a couple of scammers in the last few days. Deal only with LOCAL buyers and sellers. If anybody is from out of the area please let me know.
Be very cautious about accepting anything but CASH for your items for sale! I would feel better about accepting a personal check from a local person who seems genuinely interested in your item than a a money order, cashier's check, wire transfer or using some escrow service.
The way the scam works is that the money order, cashier's check or wire transfer is bogus (but appear to be fine even to your bank). What's more, the "payment" is typically for over the amount that you are asking and then they would ask you to send them a check or wire them the difference. Your check/wire would clear before your bank could tell you that their "payment" was bogus.
Here are some tell tales signs of a SCAM:
- They are out of the area and refer to some one else (their agent) who will pick up the item and arrange shipping.
- They offer payment in something other than cash
- They don't refer to the item by name (so they can scam lots of people easily)

payment with cashiers check or money order through my cousine in the
state, making it payable to you on our behalf, i am doing this meanly bcs of
my absence in the state.
You dont need to get worried as this item will be shipped, local shipping
company will come for the pick up of the item at your vicinity as soon as you
got the check cashed.
Pls kindly get back to me if this is okay with you, and also appreciate more
pics as well.
