It's been a long time since I lived in Sebastopol, but wasn't there a Volkswagen repair shop called "Earth In Upheaval"?

It's the name of an auto repair shop in town: https://www.earthinupheavalautorepair.com/
How did it got its name? Maybe they took it from the title of one of Immanuel Velikovsky's books as a reference to the earthquake of 1906.

It's a car repair shop, been in town a long time. The work is generally ok, but the owner is a very difficult character.
Not outright dishonest, but he will jerk you around on timing (for example, won't start work on car right away, takes longer to return it, etc), and will nickle and dime you every chance he gets. He seems to count on the fact that there is little competition in Sebastopol.

Thanks so much for the low-down. I really appreciate it. Strange little idiom.

Kirk

I remember being puzzled about that one a dozen or so years ago! Seemed in opposition to what I had imagined about living here in paradise.....Welcome aboard. Mindy

I have had similar experiences with the owner although I would have to characterize him as dishonest. He charged me over $700 and did not fix my car and refused to back his work. I tried several times to appeal to him but he extremely rude and mean. I finally took my car to J&W and they knew right away what the problem was and fixed it for less than $50.

I've had only good service at Earth in Upheaval, and have always found the proprietor and his assistants very courteous and helpful.

I completely agree. We've been taking our elderly Volvo to Richard there for years and wouldn't dream of ever going anywhere else. Bring a doggie cookie or two for the dogs when you go!

I haven't. We had some problems with a car after he'd serviced it (not necessarily related to his work) and I'm still pissed off at the way he pretty much stonewalled me when I went back to talk about it. I refuse to go to a shop where they're not willing to explain their diagnosis and their work.

I had terrible problems with them years ago and had to go to a california state mediator, and won.
Years ago, when Rich had a car shop out of his house I took my first volvo to him, we are talking over 35 years ago. But things changed as his business got bigger and bigger. I found them very difficult to deal with. Especially if something didnt go just right

I'm surprised they are still in existence. We were ripped off there in the 90's. And have heard nothing but bad things ever since. Joel and Ron's is a good choice. But the best is Bill Automotive. He comes to your house. Best rates in the world.
