Overheard over my shoulder on Saturday 9/13, about 4:00 p.m., as I was buying my ticket for "Burn After Reading" at the Sebastopol Theatre,

A sweet young girl/woman's voice:

"THANK You" ....

"For Everything" ....

car or van door slams, vehicle drives away

(now less sweet, with a hint of sarcasm)

"in my life" ....

(now sotto voce, with a bit of venomous final emphasis)

"that Sucks!"

I cracked up, laughing uproariously, turned and saw a 12-14 year old blond with her friend both grinning mischievously.

I asked her, "Have you ever told him, or her, that to their face?"

"No", the teen replied, just a tiny bit chagrined.

"You should!!!" I replied enthusiastically and laughed some more.

Had to share it with the cashier at Patisserie Angelica and some neighbors in the theater. And now the world of waccobb.

I don't have kids, I no longer teach adolescents. And moments like the above make me both grateful, and nostalgic!
