It was announced this evening that the plug will be pulled on recyclesonomacounty. It's too bad. Now what?

I recall reading that someone was starting up some new recycling groups around here. They weren't freecycle, but i know freecycle is operating one in each city, pretty much. There's the other west county recycle at yahoo, but that excludes SR and RP, Penngrove, Cotati, Petaluma, and so on. Since this is a busy community activity, I doubt it will stop. Where will it move?

For Sale/Free/Wanted (https://forumdisplay.php?f=8)
Sell your personal stuff here, promote yard/garage sales, announce giveaways, and items wanted.

All ready to go!!! Access it from the main Wacco menu.

I'm sorry to hear that RecycleSonomaCounty has decided fold. I want to commend Ann Leach and the other moderators for running a fine service that both helped its members and the planet!

:welcome:I want extend a warm invitation RecycleSonomaCounty member to continue their recycling here on Waccobb.net (https://www.waccobb.net/forums/index.php?s=), using the For Sale/Free/Wanted category (https://www.waccobb.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=8). For now, I think its best if the recycled items are mixed in with the for sale item, giving a wider exposure for both types of items, however I welcome your comments if you think a separate category would serve the community better.

This website has some advantages over a Yahoogroup for organizing a recycling network. Once a item is Offered, any further communication about it would be replies on the same thread. When the item is Taken, the original offer posting can be edited or deleted, thereby cutting down on the email load of both offerer and the offerees. You can also choose to not see any posts from a specific user if you choose, and quickly see all the posts by a user. I can also prevent a banned user from rejoining the list from the same computer, keeping it safer for everybody.

And while at the same site (or digest) you can be informed about local events and other items of local interest if you choose to be.

Please let me know if there anyway that WaccoBB.net could make a better home for Sonoma County Recyclers!

I am VERY disappointed that Ann deleted the RecycleSonomaCounty group without passing the reins to somebody else. I understand that she has invested MANY, MANY hours of her personal time into the group, but this decision seems to have been made in HASTE, not in the spirit of the group. It feels more like somebody "taking their toys home so nobody else can play with them." :-(

I would rather have a thriving RecycleSonomaCounty group (with a few bad apples) than have no group at all. I VERY much hope that she backed-up the user list of over 1,400(?) people before pulling the plug and that the group can be easily resurrected. Unfortunately, I fear this is not the case. :-(

What an incredible resource lost in the matter of seconds! :-(

I never even recevied notice of the group's closure. I assume it is because I was on the digest, not individual emails. If it hadn't been posted here, I would have figured that I got booted and never known that the entire group was closed.

Pretty sad situation. Who knows how many folks are just left wondering what happened.....

the resource was not the tool that we used to communicate, the resource was the people who do the recycling. We are still here. We will find another tool of communication. No worries! In fact, Barry has offered to let us post here all we want. What could be better? One-stop community.

I agree it is a terrible loss. But those of us that were on the Recycle list could make a start at contacting folks. If you still have a bunch of emails in your inbox from the list, you could email all of those people and tell them where the next one would be. It is similar to what we did when Wacco suddenly folded.

Yep, I was surprised at the sudden ending of RSC, too. I have (re)signed up with a local freecycle thing but I had really kind of begun to feel part of a community. This forum works well in its organization; I think separating the forsale-cheap from the free stuff would be a great service.
It felt great to be able to divest myself of things I no longer needed, and get them to people that did need or want them!

I agree, this forum does work great. And we can post pictures, unlike Yahoo. But the best thing is, there are no spy-bots placed on our computers, unlike YAHOO who tracks your every move on the internet! (That's right, isnt it Barry? No spybots?) And also, Yahoo is known to collaborate with repressive governments to collect evidence and turn in dissenters for incarceration. Do we really want to give them the hits on their site that generate more revenue for those engaged in these repressive activities? I say, let's chuck Yahoo!:Jedi:

That's right, No Spybots here! (but if you visit Republican/right wing websites you'll be targeted for reprogramming!)

The next one is, as you're reading this, already up and running. It's called recycle-sonomacounty. To join up, just click on the link below, or copy and paste into your browser address window. The concept is greater than the individuals who are trying to "harness" it...(IMHO).
