Does anyone know if you can replace excess sodium in soil with a dose of calcium in lime or gypsum form. I want to use pee as a nitrogen source in the garden but am worried about the effect of salt on the plants.

Thanks---Peter

I've not found the amount of sodium in pee to be a problem. Rain and watering will leach it out. I use pee on my container garden and it grows nice fat tomatoes. I do use other forms of fertilizer as pee will grow things big, but you may also need some other nutrients to produce blooms.

Just make sure you dilute the pee with enough water. I used to fill my night time potty bucket with water and dump it under the lemon tree when I lived at my brother's house and the lemons got the size of smallish grapefruits.
