Flood Causes $150,000 in Damages to the Solar Living Institute
Flood Fund Established January 4, 2006
Dear Friend of the Solar Living Institute:
As you may already know, the Solar Living Center in Hopland, California, was hit by the worst flood in the area in over 50 years on Dec. 31. While fortunately, our interns were able to be boat-rescued from the site, the devastation to the site from being 8'-10' under water for many hours is staggering. We need your help. Please donate to help us recover.
An Estimated $150,000 in Damages
We estimate a minimum of $150,000 in direct damages were done to our nonprofit's projects and equipment, none of which are covered by flood insurance.
Dome Burns, Interns Escape
The geodesic dome that housed the interns burned to the ground, destroying their personal property, the intern living quarters, and their kitchen. Fortunately they all escaped both the rapidly rising water and the fire.
Vehicles & Storage Ruined, Yurt Floats Away
5 vehicles were submerged and destroyed including an intern's car, two Institute trucks, and the tractor used on site, and all natural buildings on site were damaged archives, tools, workshop and SolFest materials, furniture and personal property, and three Institute storage units were destroyed
and the list goes on and on...
Fortunately No One Was Injured
The good news is that no one was hurt, and nothing was done to adversely affect
