In remembrance of the horrifying tragedy of the coup d'état against the Allende government in Chile on September 11, 1973.
It was a coup orchestrated by the United States against the Chilean democracy and was replaced with another U.S. puppet, military dictator, Augusto Pinochet, who mass murdered, tortured, and imprisoned many tens of thousands of Chileans for almost two decades.
Shame on the U.S.

Sadly, Americans don't give a flying fuck! It explains a few things about the people of the U.S.

This land is our land. God gave it to us to do with us we wish. It is all part of our Manifest Destiny. That includes all of the Americas (as Monroe pointed out for us). So we're just expanding our Imperialism a bit to take over the rest of the world. But it's OK because we are Right and that gives us the right to dictate to everyone else.

You know Edward, it bothers me when you paint with such a broad brush, especially when that brush is covered with such dark paint. I actually think most US citizens (I really dislike the inadequate term: Americans) would be horrified and dismayed if they knew that little piece of history. I certainly didn't learn it in school.
I'd say it explains more about our school system and our mass media than it does about our people. A great many of our people are generous and compassionate once they know what's actually going on.
