"odd, uncanny", see surreal humour (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surreal_humour),

Surreal humour is a form of humour (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humor), stylistically related to the artistic ambitions of the surrealists (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surrealism), based on bizarre juxtapositions (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juxtaposition), absurd situations and nonsense (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonsense) logic. A common element of surreal humor is the non-sequitur (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non_sequitur_%28humor%29), in which one statement is followed by another with no logical progression.
Humour that could be considered surreal has been around at least since the nineteenth century. Lewis Carroll (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewis_Carroll)'s Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice%27s_Adventures_in_Wonderland) and Through the Looking Glass (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Through_the_Looking_Glass) both use illogic and absurdity for humorous effect. Many of Edward Lear (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Lear)'s nonsense stories and poems are also basically surreal in approach; for example, The Story of the Four Little Children Who Went Round the World is filled with contradictory statements and odd images intended to provoke amusement, such as the following:
"After a time they saw some land at a distance; and when they came to it, they found it was an island made of water quite surrounded by earth. Besides that, it was bordered by evanescent isthmuses with a great Gulf-stream running about all over it, so that it was perfectly beautiful, and contained only a single tree, 503 feet high."[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surreal_humour#cite_note-0)
Despite such precursors, the name "surreal" first began to be used to describe a type of aesthetic in the early 20th century. At that time, several avant-garde (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avant-garde) movements including the Dadaists (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dadaism), Surrealists (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surrealism), and Futurists (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futurism_%28art%29) began to argue for an art that was random, jarring and illogical. The goals of these movements were in some sense serious, yet they were also committed to undermining the solemnity and self-satisfaction of the contemporary artistic establishment. As a result, much of their art was intentionally amusing. One famous example is Marcel Duchamp (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcel_Duchamp)'s inverted urinal of 1917, entitled Fountain and signed "R. Mutt." This became one of the most famous and influential pieces of art in history — it is also, however, a joke, relying on the inversion of the item's function as expressed by its title as well as its incongruous presence in an art exhibition.
In addition to the avant-garde (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avant-garde) art movements, early surrealist comedy is found in the satirical (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satire) and comedic elements of works of modern authors, who, like Lear and Carroll, wrote stories which dispensed with the normal rules of logic. Examples of this include the dark comedy of Kafka (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kafka), the stream of consciousness (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stream_of_consciousness_writing)-style writings of James Joyce (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Joyce) (and later stream-of-consciousness authors like Jack Kerouac (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Kerouac), William S. Burroughs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_S._Burroughs) and Hunter S. Thompson (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunter_S._Thompson)), or the whimsical poetry of Dylan Thomas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dylan_Thomas) and E. E. Cummings (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._E._Cummings). Surrealist humour is also found frequently in avant-garde theatre such as the droll Waiting for Godot (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waiting_for_Godot) and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosencrantz_%26_Guildenstern_Are_Dead). Humour in the avant-garde arts continues to this day. Artists like Yoko Ono (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoko_Ono), Andy Warhol (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Warhol), Donald Barthelme (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Barthelme), Italo Calvino (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italo_Calvino), John Hodgman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hodgman) and many others have relied on this technique in their work.
Surrealist humour has played an important role in popular culture, especially since the radio show, The Goon Show (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Goon_Show) and The Firesign Theater (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Firesign_Theater). In the 1960s, surrealist humour was combined with counter-culture in movements such as the Youth International Party (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Youth_International_Party), Situationist International (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Situationist_International), and Discordianism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discordianism), as well as in the work of psychedelic musicians (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychedelic_music) such as The Beatles (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatles), Frank Zappa (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Zappa), The Residents (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Residents), The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bonzo_Dog_Doo-Dah_Band), Pink Floyd (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Floyd) and Captain Beefheart (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Beefheart).
Another significant influence on popular culture was Monty Python (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Python), most notably in their Goon Show (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goon_Show)-influenced TV series, Monty Python's Flying Circus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Python%27s_Flying_Circus), which featured a more lucid and intricate style of show structure and many more absurdities and non-sequiturs than the later show, Saturday Night Live (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Night_Live). Since the influence of Monty Python, shows including humour of a primarily surrealistic nature include The Kids in the Hall (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kids_in_the_Hall), Mr. Show (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Show), Scrubs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrubs_%28TV_series%29), The Ren & Stimpy Show (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ren_%26_Stimpy_Show), Rocko's Modern Life (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocko%27s_Modern_Life), the comedy programming of Adult Swim (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adult_Swim) (especially Williams Street (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Williams_Street) shows such as Space Ghost: Coast to Coast (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Ghost:_Coast_to_Coast), Aqua Teen Hunger Force (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqua_Teen_Hunger_Force), Harvey Birdman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_Birdman),12 oz. Mouse (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12_oz._Mouse), and Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_and_Eric_Awesome_Show,_Great_Job%21)), Spaced (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaced), Late Night (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Late_Night), Green Wing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Wing), and the comedies of Reeves and Mortimer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reeves_and_Mortimer). In anime (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime), FLCL (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLCL) and Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobobo-bo_Bo-bobo),are good examples. Other good examples of more recent surrealist humour can be found in the radio and book series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy), Terry Pratchett (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Pratchett)'s Discworld (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discworld) book series, numerous graphic novels such as Flaming Carrot (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming_Carrot), and films by such directors as Alejandro Jodorowsky (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alejandro_Jodorowsky), Fernando Arrabal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernando_Arrabal), Federico Fellini (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federico_Fellini), David Lynch (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Lynch), Matthew Lessner and Peter Greenaway (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Greenaway). Numerous websites also involve surreal humor, including Something Awful (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Something_Awful), Buttercup Festival (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buttercup_Festival), and Homestar Runner (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homestar_Runner). The television shows South Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Park), Family Guy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Guy), Futurama (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futurama), American Dad (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Dad%21) and The Mighty Boosh (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mighty_Boosh) all use surrealism as a major part of their appeal. In stand-up comedy, famous exponents of surreal comedy include Ross Noble (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_Noble), Bill Bailey (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Bailey), Mitch Hedberg (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitch_Hedberg) and Eddie Izzard (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Izzard). Even the E! talk show The Soup (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Soup) draws from absurdist humour, pointing out absurdities within modern culture

Well, I guess I'm "weird", then, since I'm appalled that you would think having a cat slammed into a wall (with quite a lot of force) would be, what...entertaining? It's not a fake cat, and this wasn't a Hollywood production where they guarantee that no animals are harmed. It was someone's cat in their living room, who could have broken bones or internal injuries or possibly died due to that impact. This is not weird, this is sick & detached from reality, as well as heartless & barbaric. Go ahead & throw one of your own pets against a wall as hard as you can---pretty funny, huh?

Paula,
I find your post quite violent and hostile towards animals.
No one is doing anything to that cat, did you notice that?
Are you aware that cats are considered wild animals under the law, meaning they can not be controlled?

Holding my own, I am guessing guyz make their boundaries when they hit 44! Makin her sleep with the kidz hard to imagine I could turn a cold cheek when it’s sooo close but…. I am thru being such a genital spirit and have decided to really give everyone involved a harder time. Seems to be working. I am not longer in the middle, but have not replaced myself but adding everyone to the middle and really have started having a good time in doing to. No more walking on leaves without making any noise. More on the lines of OH SHIT lets just walk away slowly. Mykil is near by. Her ex has a whole new vocabulary to learn before I can really begin my mind F—k. He will come around or have a heart attack in trying to understand my true intent!!!! She is a wonderful woman just really needs to buy a reality!!! Maybe she can by a cheap one at wal-mart!!!! Its amazing the vast distances someone will go to try to upset you just to get under your skin, turning the cheek for over a year does not work soooo on I go. I cannot drop the package off at the shelter as sooo many have suggested, this I inhuman and does not even represent a reality, so I figure what the hell she is going to have another someone soon so I might as well enlighten him to the fact that someone else might not be sooo forgiving eh? LOL!! Atleast I am learning to have fun! And to answer your question, yes I am in a sad state of affairs, it is hard letting go of the one you love, yet even harder pushing the one you love out the door! How are you?

Hmmm ok then a dead head she is, a true dead! It appears to me she still lives her life in a song. Every wonder, every thought has to revolve around a song in order for it to make sense! Strange; but true. I should not say she needs to buy a reality, more like she needs to buy a new reality, cause the one she is using now it flawed! LOL! There is a lot more I could say but let’s just leave it at that! I need to work! But if you wo7ld like to dissect her and me we can work thru this and I am alwayz open to criticism and enlightenment in the way of you hitting on me love!

I appreciate that everyone is have a bit of fun with this thread. It is interesting to see where it is going .

Though, I never did quite figure out why people thought seeing animals or humans get hurt was the slightest bit amusing or funny. :hmmm:
Perhaps it's not something i want to figure out.

Me holding the viewpoint and observation that " your weird" was the only thing (and the most neutral thing) I could come up with at the time. Everyone is weird and everyone knows it.

But me being an animal lover..in particular cats, when I saw the video, I did not know what to feel. I played it over a few times to see if i could tell if the video had been edited, enhanced or if the cat was 'real' through the whole ordeal.
I tuned into what my body felt like upon watching this, with the imaginings the cat was real.
I tuned into feeling a heaviness and a sense of disturbed energy in my solar plexus area, and felt some sadness along with compassion.

It is odd b/c most of my guy friends think the video is funny or hilarious while most of my female friends feel more sensitive. hmmmmmm... :hmmm:

and I could not even think of showing this video to my vegan friends! and I know they are out there in the Wacco community.

As a result of the sensitive nature of this thread and the potential sensitive feelings that could and already has been exchanged both privately and public in our "conscious progressive community", I am now going public with a suggestion I made to Barry in a private email when i first saw this thread:

to pull the plug on this thread being in the Wacco talk category and put it in the "Censored/Uncensored" and have at it!

Kali, I don't think the people who made the cat video had any intention to have their cat get its claws caught and take flight. I'm sure it wasn't funny for the cat. MsTerry posting it here is ... well. you judge.

My reaction was more along the lines of "Oh my God." rather than laughter. But I have to admit it did look funny. I'm sure the cat didn't think it was funny.

The squirrel videos are just plain funny. "No animals were harmed." However, they do steal those precious hours I mentioned previously. I'm trying to think of a suitable punishment for Rich.

If you think about the video, I am pretty sure the cat has done that before. As a matter of fact I am pretty sure the cat even enjoyed the filming of this little vid. I have it on good authority that the cat even wrote the script!!!!

I take it that you guyz have never seen <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">America</st1:place></st1:country-region>’s funniest home videos? Or the stupidest pet trick sitcom. Or <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">America</st1:place></st1:country-region>’s funny pet videos? I am really sorry that people don’t'
t have a better understanding of their pets. Oh my god the cat is going to get that bird, we had better lock the cat indoors so he may never eat another. Well just put this little box over here in the corner and make him/her [don't want any gender discrimination this early in the morning] shit in the house and never go outside as long as poe ole pudy lives! Now that would be more on the lines of animal cruelty, would you not agree? I have seem this done over and over! I don't let the cats outside cause I am afraid they will get hit by a car, meanwhile the cat is like "what the fuck man let me out of this smelly cooped up hell hole you ole bat"!
<o:p> </o:p>
When I was growing up I had a dog that loved to party, He loved to party sooo much at one point I had to do an intervention on his asssss. Oh ya where was I? He used to jump up on my little motorcycle and put his paws on my shoulders and we would cruise all over the countryside, is this bad or was the dog just having fun? He used to have his own skateboard and use it everyday with or without me. Is this wrong to let him out by himself without proper head protection? He used to go to the bar by himself every night. The only problem with this was he would wake me at two in the morning every single night, he didn’t care I had to work the next day! Hell this dog even stole my best friends mushrooms so he could trip with me all day and left my poor friend hangin!!! It was fine I was like “SORRY FRANK I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO SAY! YOU know how she is” Know was it just plain wrong for my friend to leave his shrooms out in the open for the dog to chew on and have the best trip ever with me in that particular millennium? Hell no we had a great day tripin around town and in the hells together!!!!
<o:p> </o:p>
Plesae if you really thought that was all that bad I am really glad you have pets, just stick with pets and try not to reproduce. I feel more for the kidz than the pets and could not stand to watch the little children looking out he windows of your house watching the other children playing I nthe streets cause you don’t think its safe outside. Yes there area few and small populaton on driveway kitties that don’t get it, for the most part this way less than one percent are usually killed when they are too little to get attached to. This also goes for children, yes it happens. I hear that the life expectancy raises almost five years for an indoor cat. But then again what cat it their right mind would want to be locked up indoors all its life and not be able to go outside? Now if you said the cat doesn’t know the difference than I am really sorry that you feel our little furry friends have no feelings and that you are really a control freak!!!! PEACE! I need to go to work! [ I WROTE THIS NAKED SITING IN MY CHAIR WITH LIMITED COFFEE”!!! :2cents:

Braggi,

Because I am a mother cat, i only know what I would do and what my personal experience would be like. If I had a ceiling fan, I would never get the idea to put a dangling toy hanging from the ceiling fan to entice my cat to begin with! Regardless of how funny it might look in my mind.

My intention and yearning desire is to live and create for myself a non-judgmental realm.
This includes the guys who made the video. Or even the private exchanges made as a result of this thread.

With this said, all that is left for me to do is to focus on what is true for me --- my body sensations and feelings

My opinion about the placement of this thread when thinking about what is in the best interest for all for our "conscious progressive community" (need i say this phrase one more time?!) has not changed and probably won't.

Perhaps Barry and the moderators feel different and feel its ok to let this thread remain in waccotalk rather than censored/uncensored.
(unless mykil continues talking about porn...which, then the thread actually NEEDS to be under a diff. category! Go Mykil!!!)

My request/suggestion/opinion has been made known.

That last bit if info was NOT necessary!:footstomp:

I love AFV, especially Y&S males attempting (& failing) tricks on skateboards & bikes.

Most guys seem to appreciated the 3 stooges, gals not so much. That lends a lot insight into the male mentality (or complete lack of). If gals can accept that premise, then perhaps they can begin to deal with intrusions like this a bit more easily. That does not mean they have to enjoy it the way we do, just understand our need to enjoy other people's pain.

Call me depraved and demented if you will; I'm not gonna change.

My intention and yearning desire is to live and create for myself a non-judgmental realm.

OK NT, let's look at this video objectively.
there is a cat, a fan and a video camera.
Is that a normal or regular conjunction? NO
Is it normal or regular to have a cat sitting so close to a fan? NO
Is it normal or regular to video tape a cat sitting so close to a fan? NO, unless you are expecting or provoking something to happen.
Is it logical to conclude that the cat has been going for a spin before? Yes, hence the video camera.
Is the fan going at a dangerous speed? NO, it appears to go at it's lowest speed
Is there any evidence that the cat is endangered? NO
Is there any evidence that the cat is hurt? NO
Is there any evidence that the cat is smacked against a wall? NO
Is there any logic to it that the cat is most likely to get hurt?
NO, at the speed the fan is going and the curve that the cat's body is creating while spinning, the room would have to be 6x6 in order for the cat to hit a wall. This is most unlikely since the walls appear blurry and out of focus, because of their distance.
Do I have a cat? No, I have two of them.
It is interesting to see how some people project their fears on to a distant situation and then claim it as their own.

As a follow up I have been offered by a local veterinarian to have my knees broken and as a bonus an ear cut off, all this with the support of a local moderator.
If you think this is a joke, write me in private and I'll forward the proof.

The reason I posted it in the first place was that it showed in my mind that cats are willing to do almost anything, even after they have figured out before that it can have unpleasant results.
I have a cat that does the same stupid things over and over again.
Can anybody tell me why felines haves these foibles?

Kali, I don't think the people who made the cat video had any intention to have their cat get its claws caught and take flight. I'm sure it wasn't funny for the cat. MsTerry posting it here is ... well. you judge.

My reaction was more along the lines of "Oh my God." rather than laughter. But I have to admit it did look funny. I'm sure the cat didn't think it was funny.

The squirrel videos are just plain funny. "No animals were harmed." However, they do steal those precious hours I mentioned previously. I'm trying to think of a suitable punishment for Rich.

:goodpost::confused::eek::southpark::feedtroll: I couldn't agree more. I was thinking along the same lines, but didn't know how to put it quite so well, Nurturetruth. When I was first introduced to WaccoBB in June '06, I don't recall there being so much venom, sarcasm, private jokes (in the daily digest), and just blathering on for no apparent reason.

Things have changed dramatically since then, with various sick members of our community choosing this forum to be hurtful, to lie, to confuse people, and to just create chaos & bad feelings. Why is this tolerated? No one who repeatedly posts intentionally evil messages should be allowed to disrespect the rest of us with their juvenile, distasteful posts. Get rid of him/her! I've removed him from my list of people from whom I don't want to receive posts; why not simply ignore him (or anyone else who seems to be "stirring the pot") & keep WaccoBB as a responsible, positive forum for people who have the maturity above the level of a 6th grader?

People are already starting to drop away from WaccoBB due, in part, to the idiots who enjoy playing the devil's advocate. They'll continue to drop away until all that's left are the idiots, posting back & forth to each other & giggling maniacally. Enough.

I appreciate your response msterry and all the others on this thread.
Honestly, it has been amusing. ( i luv u all very much..even sweet lorrie who I am always amused with!)

I also appreciate your willingness to contact and share with me privately though I have not had a chance to respond today.
So since you went public , I will give you my response here......

Based on my observations on what you have shared with me in private, I do not feel it is a joke , amusing or an example of "conscious progresive communication" in any way. In the best interest for all involved, I highly recommend disengaging in further communication at this time.
(this goes for all involved in the dialoging)

I now feel MORE sad about what I would refer to as unconscious or aggressive forms of communication that sometimes go on in this community both in public and private than I do watching the video now.

This was my greatest concern about leaving this particular thread up in the Wacco Talk Category since that category goes out in the digest and uncensored/censored does not. I knew it would ripple the tides .

When you posted this thread msterry, what was your intent? to create or stimulate what type of "ripple' affect?

Why not choose the uncensored/censored where people could still respond and get a kick out of it?
I remain baffled as to WHY Barry has not decided to move this thread , but I am sure he has his reasonings .

However, when I am dancing in our West County's community or even the greater sonoma county area and refer people to Waccobb...either they have never heard of it or the response is something like:

"oh. i don't participate much on that board anymore , I don't enjoy the energy. Its not a feel good vibration."

In fact, I know of about 20-40 people just in Sebastopol that are completely NOT into the Wacco scene even to promote their business for the same story.

Of course, this all might be 'the minority' , but it sure feels like alot when I seem to run into it on a consistent day to day basis and the numbers continue to keep increasing everywhere I go!

In fact, recently , when I attended the Alternative Healing event in Sebastopol and mentioned Waccobb to the venders, many of them held the same opinion and wanted nothing to do with Wacco.

One lady even told me she refused to advertise her services's on Wacco as a conscious decision based on her observations' and experience.

I find this all very sad and disappointing all the way around.

I am allowed and able to feel and express my heavy feelings of sadness without feeling the need to go into judgements or look at things objectively.

With sadness

I nominate 'Vet to Pet' to chair the Disciplinary Committee of the Wacco List! Vet has it right; we need to start kicking out all of the idiots and anyone else who doesn't see things her way.

I vote for Vet, a leader, a visionary. Her way or the highway!

You go Vet.

Dear Paula,

This is what NT wrote and you so blatantly ignore

For some reason, you have a need and desire to call people names and threaten them with violence in private.
It appears that you have become the person you describe as a person who would want" to be hurtful, to lie, to confuse people, and to just create chaos & bad feelings."
