I am trying to start a home worm composter, does anyone have any experience with this? Or any leads on where to acquire some red worms, or may have some to spare?
Cheers,

This is how I made my worm farm:
1. In a half-wine-barrel, I made a small opening by jamming a large nail between the barrel boards on the side at the bottom, so water could escape.
2. Then I added some used straw from my pet rabbits' cages. I continue to add rabbit droppings and straw.
3. Then I added all the compostable food scraps, that were not meat, from our daily dinners, and all vegetable clippings that don't get fed to the rabbits.
4. Next I added a few shovels-full of soil that the gophers pushed up from the yard, and a couple of potted plants that had died, dirt, roots and all.
5. Here's the KEY. On a very rainy day, I walked up my gravel driveway with a paper cup in hand, and collected about a dozen [or less] worms that were going to get run-over anyway. These were added to the half-wine-barrel and left alone. Kept moist and often covered with cardboard.
6. When I went to turn over the compost in the springtime, there were a million+ worms! The worms seem mostly interested in the rabbit waste.
If you want pet rabbits, I have a few extra.
