Five year old, male, black cat, medium length hair. Has been named Otis and Onyx. Had just moved from Sebastopol to Guerneville, so may be trying to find it's way back. Has imbedded chip, but scan will lead to a dead-end.

Last seen on Watson Road in Guerneville.

If found or seen please e-mail or call (707) 869-8270.

Thanks.

This is Mary From All Aboard Animal Search and Rescue may I ask what kind of chip her has avid, homeagain?

I am doing a study on the chips seems avid travels , and sometimes falls out. I experienced that myself with a rescue dog.

do you have pics feel free to send them to me, I will keep eyes peeled for him.

So my question is why will the scan lead to dead end.

Good Luck finding your furkid.
Mary

Yes - it would be good to know what kind of chip, and the number of the chip. Even if it leads to a dead end it is something potential rescuers can look for.

If you know the chip number, you can call the company and register the number NOW, even if the kitty is currently lost. I can't think of any reason a chip that can be scanned would lead to a dead end, unless you have not registered it. If the chip leads to someone else no longer interested in the cat, or the wrong phone #, it is a simple phone call away to switch this to a current contact! This is what is done when a previously owned animal with a chip is given to a new person- the chip number is the same, but the company changes the contact information. Do it now, so if the kitty ends up at any of the many pounds, private hospitals, or rescues around here as a stray- they can find you!
Most chips are AVID or HomeAgain, though the Rescue chip is starting to be used more around here. If you don't know the number, you can probably still get it with some phone work- if you know where it was implanted, or a previous owner that has a veterinary record somewhere.
good luck, jess
