Hi All,
The four of us, including two children 13 and 10, are ready (and way overdue) for a family pet. We have a well fenced acre in a rural area outside of Graton and are ready for a long term commitment to be responsible pet owners.
Just looking for a puppy that came from loving, good tempered, playful parents. Breed is not too important.
Any help is appreciated. Much thanks.

I am glad to hear that your family is ready for a puppy. You say that breed is not important. You could not be more wrong! Please do your research regarding breed traits. If you are a couch potato, a Greyhound rescue would be a perfect match. If you like to hike, jog, walk every day, then a terrier mix might fit the bill. Do you object to barking dogs? Then a quieter breed is your consideration.

I wonder why you are not going to your local animal shelter to adopt a dog? There are helpful counselors who know the dogs in the shelter and can point you in the right direction. If the reason you are not looking in a local shelter is money, then I suggest you rethink getting a dog. Dogs are expensive, and an adoption fee of perhaps $65 is just the beginning of more expenses to come. You will need initial shots (already done by a shelter), then heartworm tests, heartworm prevention every 45 days, food, and Dawg only knows whatever else happens with a dog.

Please give consideration to my thoughts. I hope you will be the dream home of a puppy or adult dog. Your local shelter is the best place to start.
