UPDATE: SIENNA'S OWNER, AMY POLNOFF, has been following the advice offered by several Wacco members. She is unable to locate the Chocolate Lab Rescue or the breeder who sold Sienna to her. The Central Lab Rescue sent her a form which she filled out and sent back to them. Has yet to hear more from them.

In future, please email Amy personally. I am not involved other than posting here for her.

I am posting this for a VOLUNTEER with North Bay Canine Rescue & Placement. Amy, SIENNA'S OWNER, apparently has to find a new home for her beloved dog, SIENNA due to change in her living situation and landlord who does not allow too many pets. I am sure Amy can tell you more than I can.:):

Amy has stated that SIENNA is a Registered, spayed female, Chocolate Labrador Retriever. Working ranch dog with many talents, loves all people, children especially. Knows all commands. You can even leave your back door open and she will not come in unless invited. (I would make sure she is comfortable and secure in your home before trying this) Sienna is very well behaved and does not dig in the yard. She has never bitten anyone. SIENNA is a loving and compassionate dog, more wonderful than any other of her breed!

AMY also sent me the following true story of SIENNA which I think is really great.

Sienna has experience as a herding dog. One day, our steer had broken out and had run down the road to our pasture while all I could do is stand and watch. The pasture was not gated off at the time and our driveway out did not have a entry gate, either. Sienna was standing next to me and I had the most ridiculous thought, maybe she was using ESP (I don't know), but I looked down at her and said "You are my only hope, if your dad comes home and found out that our dinner just ran down the road, he'll kill me. Get that cow Sienna"! She took off and caught up with him. First she barked alot and then she figured that wasn't working so she started nipping at his heels. Well, he turned around and came back up the road and she got him into his pen and held him in the back corner while I fixed the gate he had broken down. My neighbor told me she was watching and heard all that was going on and couldn't help but laugh at me when I told that Labrador to get a cow. She said that when she saw the dog herding the cow back up the road, her chin hit the floor so hard, she thought she was going to need dental work! She was three years old at the time.

Sienna was also responsible for putting the sheep and goats up in their pens from the pasture at the end of each day. She was also used as a surrogate to any orphaned lambs or git of goats and sheep due to death or mothers who would not accept the babies. The babies would be brought to her and she would massage them with her teeth and clean them to give them the desire to survive, otherwise they would just not "wake up" from birth and die. She would sleep with them at night to keep them warm and would give them baths throughout the day.

This is a very special dog. She truly is compassionate and loving of all people and other animals. She even leaves our Goffin Cockatoo alone when he is out of his cage and wandering around. sI hate to have to give her to someone just because of my love and admiration for her.She is so much one of my children, but because landlords are so difficult in understanding that most parents of an animal will truly care for the property just so their dog member can stay with their family they do not understand this bond. There have been too many young families who take on more than they can handle as renters, parents, maintaining employment and the financial hardships involved in life, the property is not properly cared for so the rest of us have to pay the price for it.

I think I should note that this dog is currently with her owner, AMY POLNOF, who lives in STOCKTON

If anyone is interested in purchasing this wonderful and loved dog for $125 or B/O, please email [email protected], or call her at 209-888-4377.

May I suggest that Amy contact the breeder of this dog ASAP, as reputable breeders will take back any dog they have produced, no questions asked, at any time/age/circumstance. Sometimes buyers of dogs do not read their contracts, or are not aware that breeders are there for them in times of need. I have run into this several times over the years with "my" favorite rescue dogs--Bearded Collies. Buyers and breeders many times lose contact with one another.
Another suggestion is to contact Chocolate Lab Rescue for help. Unfortunately, this IS a breed that has been bred far to much, so there may be lots of others in line as well. However, it is always worth a try.

I guess in addition to Barbara's very helpful suggestions I will add my own observation: Why, if this dog is wonderful and loved, is Amy trying to SELL it? This is a ten year old lab, that's late middle age for this breed. If Amy were to contribute $125 (intead of asking for it) toward this dog's future vet care, she may have better luck in placing it. Alternatively, she could promise a contribution toward the Rescue group. Just my two cents.

I am replying here to all individuals who have been communicating with myself and Amy. I don't understand why so much misunderstanding has arisen here about why Amy has chosen to charge or not to charge for her dog.

I thought I had made it clear in the posting that Amy was originally going to GIVE THE DOG AWAY. MYSELF and others advised against that and explained why. As to being able to check out anyone adopting her dog, she can do that whether she gave him away or sold the dog. And, I am pretty sure she will check out the prospective adopters.

I know everyone means well but please do read the posting before you make judgments against Amy. She wants to make sure she does the best possible thing for her beloved dog. It is not easy to do this.

As to asking for money, it is not for her own benefit. IF YOU READ any literature put out by various animal shelters, and rescue organizations, you will see that they ALL state many horror stories about how many people pose as good loving adopting families but are in fact not anything like it. Many dogs and cats and other pets wind up in research labs and other very undesirable situations.

PLEASE DON'T USE THIS site to hurt people...
